GLAAD launches #PridePortraits, an Instagram campaign that showcases the diversity of LGBT people and families
NEW YORK, NY – GLAAD, the nation's lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) media advocacy organization working with Instagram, announced the launch of #PridePortraits, a photo campaign that showcases the diversity of LGBT people and their families during LGBT Pride month. GLAAD also announced that three lucky Instagrammers will be selected to gain exclusive access to NYC Pride, including a special performance by pop music sensation Demi Lovato.
From June 20 to June 29, GLAAD and Instagram will be encouraging people to share photos of what LGBT pride means to them and their families using hashtag #PridePortraits.
Also beginning June 20, Instagrammers can enter to become one of three lucky people selected to participate in an Instameet at the 44th Annual New York City Pride March on June 29, where they will gain exclusive behind-the-scenes access to the largest LGBT Pride march in the country. The three lucky people participating in the Instameet will also gain exclusive access to NYC Pride's legendary 'Dance on the Pier,' featuring a special performance by multi-platinum selling recording artist Demi Lovato. Instagrammers can enter for their chance to be selected here: www.glaad.org/prideportraits/enter.
“Instagram is a place for people to share beautiful and powerful moments, that is why we are thrilled to support GLAAD on some great projects for LGBT Pride this year,” said Instagram Community Manager Dan Toffey.
"Images of loving LGBT families and friends are at the heart of support for equality," said GLAAD President & CEO Sarah Kate Ellis. "Social media is an especially powerful driving force for sharing stories, particularly those that change hearts and minds. As we mark the 45th anniversary of the historic Stonewall riots, GLAAD is thrilled to join Instagram in bringing #PridePortraits to millions of users across the globe as we unite to celebrate LGBT Pride."
"The 2014 NYC Pride theme of We Have Won When We’re One rings true with #PridePortraits, which reflects the unity of the LGBT community and its allies," said Tish Flynn, Media Director at NYC Pride. "Whether you are sharing these experiences with us in the heart of New York City or showing your pride on Instagram, together we are sending the message that love is louder than hate."
