From September 15 to October 15, you will probably hear a lot about Hispanic or Latino or Latinx Heritage Month. Heritage months can be tricky: why set aside just one month to celebrate ethnic or marginalized groups–including their culture, resilience, and artistry–when they should be celebrated all year? While the idea of one dedicated month can be debated, we think it’s easy to agree on one thing: how fantastic it is to uplift the creative, visionary and amazing people who are part of our LGBTQ community and who are also of Latinx heritage. So we did just that.

For every undocumented Latinx individual, this election decides their futures in the United States and we need to think of them when we vote.

When he was a little boy, actor and writer JM Longoria found it really difficult to share his fears and insecurities with his parents. His father came up with an idea: if you can’t speak it, write me a letter. From then on, father and son would leave each other letters about everything from teenage insecurity to fears about going to school after Columbine.

OutFest 2020 has an amazing selection of Latinx LGBTQ films to round off the summer with. Remember that films are available for a limited amount of time, so if something looks good, you might need to get to watching. Check out the list of Latinx films showing at OutFest this year:

GLAAD is working hard ensure our LGBTQ and Latinx communites are taking action between now and election day November. As part of our 100 Days of Action campaign, we’ll be shining a light on the great work being done by allied organizations and media outlets.

No matter who or where you are in this uncertain time, it’s hard not to feel worried. For many Latinx and LGBTQ people nationwide, an extra layer of fear haunts their days and nights.
