It’s been 13 years since Pitch Perfect was in theaters and what followed was two sequels, a television series — and a lifelong friendship between actors Rebel Wilson and Anna Camp. The two star in the action comedy Bride Hard as Sam and Betsy, respectively and they happen to be — you guessed it — best friends!
“It’s very easy to play her best friend, because we’ve a 14 year friendship since Pitch Perfect one,” Wilson told GLAAD’s Anthony Allen Ramos in a recent interview. “It’s just really easy and natural… it kind of makes going to work really fun!”
“I shot the first movie when I was in my twenties and I’m 42 now,” Camp chimed in.”We’ve seen each other through so much life experience and I think that our friendship has only deepened over the years. So it was like stepping back in time, and then also, like no time had passed at the same time.”
In Bride Hard, Wilson plays a world-class secret agent but a very terrible maid of honor. After blowing off her maid of honor duties for a mission, she is demoted to a humble bridesmaid at her BFF Betsy’s (Camp) wedding. On the wedding weekend, all is well until armed mercenaries crash the big day and only Sam can save the day!
Speaking of weddings, Wilson married her partner Ramona Agruma last year. As for Camp, she is currently navigating a new change in her life, having coming out recently. The pair have encouraging words for the LGBTQ community during these trying times.
“There’s support out there,” said Camp. “There’s so many people who want to listen to your story and hear you and support you and hold you up. I’ve been going through my own transformational time in my life, and I’ve just been so lucky to have friends who I can ask questions… I just feel so loved and supported right now.”
She continued, “There is such a strong community that I’ve now just recently been discovering, and I just feel so welcomed and happy and it’s really lovely, especially during Pride month. It’s great.”

“I’m love with my wife,” added Wilson. “[We] have so much more to learn about what’s going on with the LGBTQ community and the history. And I like that even just our little bit of representation has helped people.”
Wilson said that a 13-year-old girl reached out to her on Instagram and told her that the actress inspired her to come out. “She felt less alone and supported by us,” said Wilson. “It was so nice, like it almost brought us to tears, that she genuinely came up and and thanked us… that’s beautiful.”
Bride Hard is currently in theaters.
