The Real Friends of WeHo is an unfiltered and exciting closer look at the lives of West Hollywood’s Gay Elite. Starring celebrity stylist Brad Goreski, choreographer and singer Todrick Hall, actor Curtis Hamilton, CEO of Buttah Skincare Dorión Renaud, TV host and business owner Jaymes Vaughan, and digital entrepreneur Joey Zauzig, the reality series premieres tonight after an all new episode of RuPaul’s Drag Race.
As audiences wait to meet the fabulous crop of LGBTQ celebrities, personalities and entrepreneurs, GLAAD’s Anthony Allen Ramos sat down with the cast for a chat about the show, including why they chose to do it, and what viewers can expect.
“I think representation is important especially right now with all of the anti LGBTQ+ bills and the protests, I think it’s important to out and be telling stories,” says Brad Goreski.
As an all gay ensemble, the cast is well aware of the real potential this opportunity has to incite positive change for the LGBTQ community.
On this, Todrick tells Anthony “Male queer ensemble shows have existed before and universally they have not been embraced by the community that they’re intended to entertain. I hope that our show breaks that mold.”
While the public’s response to the show has been mixed, the cast is hopeful that their authenticity and vulnerability will shine through.
“I grew up with kids, parents, teachers telling me that who I was- was wrong…and I let that put me into a really dark place…and I didn’t want to continue. I hope that people who watch this show who are at where I was, realize that if they can hang on a little bit longer, they will have that happy ending,” adds Joey.
Curtis agrees: “You never know what people are going through. We need your support, it’s not for vanity reasons, we just need to support one another.”
