Hacks, which is currently in its fourth season, recently won the GLAAD Media Award for Outstanding Comedy Series after winning Outstanding New TV Series in 2022.
The critically acclaimed HBO comedy continues to deliver the funny — and queerness with its characters, narratives and dialogue.

In a recent episode of Hacks, beloved frenemies Deborah (Jean Smart) and Ava (Hannah Einbinder) have an argument about hiring writers that, as Ava says “reflects the world we actually live in.”
“Well, if you’d like to resign, I suppose I can take a risk on some up and coming QPOCS,” responds Deborah.
Ava fires back, “QPOCs… do you even know what that means?”
” Queer. Person. Of. Color. You. Bitch,” says Deborah bluntly.
“Where the fuck did you learn that?” asks Ava.
Deborah proudly responds: “Backstage at the GLAAD Awards.”

The scene not only reflects what’s happening in the show, but also what’s happening in Hollywood right now. When Einbinder accepted the GLAAD Media Award for their “very queer show” on March 27,
“We are so grateful to get to embody these vivid, authentic characters, with three dimensional inner lives,” she said in her acceptance speech. “We want to share this with our showrunners, our entire crew, the very cool, very queer Hacks writing staff.”
She continued, “It really just validates that the most honest and authentic work happens when queer people are able to author their own stories.” And after thanking their queer fanbase, she voiced solidarity and support for the trans community.
