“IT’S OK,” produced by Tony Award winning actor, writer, and activist Jesse Tyler Ferguson and husband, Tony Award winning Justin Mikita, is a quiet take on a very noisy subject—the rise of hate and intolerance against the LGBTQIA+ community—as two young brothers observe and absorb their first Drag Story Hour.
Watch an exclusive clip here:
In the clip, 2 young brothers sit in a classroom full of excited kids, waiting for the Drag Story Hour to begin. At the same time, the drag queen applies makeup while listening to a disturbing news clip, detailing an arson attack at a church that hosted a similar event.
The film dives into the dark realities of the extremist hate taking place all over the country. Ferguson and Mikita shared on Instagram that, “At the center of this seething debate are the children whose exposure to drag is said to be pernicious. IT’S OKAY captures the emotions and reactions of two young brothers and their mother as they get ready to attend and observe their first Drag Story Hour. Through the eyes of these first-time viewers, audiences get to see the messages of love, tolerance, and acceptance drown out the divisive societal chatter around them.”
Ferguson said in a statement, “We are so grateful to Anthony Allen Ramos and GLAAD for uplifting our small but mighty film, IT’S OKAY. The team has been a champion of the film since the first time we called them! I hope all will tune in Sunday at 9pm to watch on MSNBC, or after on The New Yorker.”
David France is an Oscar-nominated filmmaker, New York Times bestselling author, and award-winning investigative journalist. His directorial debut, How to Survive a Plague, received critical acclaim, earning him Academy and Emmy nominations as well as a Peabody Award.
