Apple TV+’s newest series City on Fire is not one you’re going to want to miss. First premiering on May 12th, this 8-episode weekly drama was inspired by the acclaimed Garth Risk Hallberg novel with the same name. City on Fire follows the investigation of the murder of an NYU student shot in Central Park in July of 2003. As the crime against Samantha, who is played by Chase Sui Wonders, is investigated, she’s revealed to be the crucial connection between a series of mysterious citywide fires, the downtown music scene, and a wealthy uptown real estate family fraying under the strain of the many secrets they keep.
This shocking mystery series also features incredible LGBTQ cast members including nonbinary actor Nico Tortorella and John Cameron Mitchell. Tortorella’s character, William, lives with his boyfriend Mercer, and will stop at nothing to get to the bottom of Samantha’s murder and how it connects to the arson taking place all over New York.
This exclusive clip from episode 6, “Annus Horribilis,” shows William hard at work searching for clues about the case. William anxiously looks through the juvie and PI records of a person of interest in the case, Nicky “Chaos” McKay.
“Public mischief, shoplifting, arson, arson, arson… more arson,” William says as he flips through the files. It is then revealed that Nicky was diagnosed with pyromania, “an impulse control disorder resulting from unprocessed childhood trauma usually seen in young men.” This may prove to be a major clue to solving the case.
