For fans of Hot White Heist, the wait for a second season is almost over! Premiering March 7th, the Audible Original Series will be back and queerer than ever.
With a star studded cast including Alan Cumming, Cynthia Nixon, Jane Lynch, Trixie Mattel, Sara Ramírez, Jane Krakowski, Sir Ian McKellen, Raúl Esparza, and the hilarious Bowen Yang, this series is not one you’re going to want to miss.
In the second season, Judy Fink, played by Yang, and his team of amateur heist experts are back and in bigger trouble than ever Two years after successfully melting down the top secret sperm bank under the Space Needle, the CLITO collective (Community of Lesbians Inclusive To Others) is thriving on their newly acquired private island, Lesbos 2. All is well in their queer utopia. Or is it?
To talk about season 2 of Hot White Heist and all of his other exciting projects, GLAAD’s Anthony Allen Ramos was joined by out actor and comedian Bowen Yang.
Yang describes his experience working on the series as “so cool.” He praises Hot White Heist writer Adam Goldman for being “So, so, so brilliant in terms of making it a big sort of tent for all these different people to come through.”
“I mean the cast is crazy,” Yang teases some new stars that will be joining what may be the queerest cast ever, including Jesse James Keitel, Yvie Oddly, and Joel Kim Booster who Yang jokingly calls “some random guy I’ve never met.” The two co-starred in the 2022 GLAAD Media Award winning film Fire Island.
The series is both produced by and features The Traitors host Alan Cumming. When asked if he’d spoken to Cumming about possibly competing on the next season of the series, Yang reveals, “I have not hit him up personally. I imagine his phone is ringing off the hook, but I have inquired about the shooting schedule for season three. Let’s just say that…” He went on to say that, “If there was an all queer Traitors season, that would would be amazing.” Adding that a few Real Housewives would need to stick around because, “They’re the ‘A,’ they’re allies.”
The Saturday Night Live star went viral last week in a sketch with Sydney Sweeney called “Bowen’s Straight.”
Yang says he had a great time working with the actress. “She was so fun to do it with, she was so down and she was so game and had such a sense of humor about herself. She was like, ‘Please, let’s do whatever sketches you guys want.'”
He speaks about how before shooting the sketch, he went to go make sure Sweeney still felt safe and comfortable with the idea of “hooking up with him.” He says that, “She stops me and she puts her hand on my shoulder. She goes ‘Bowen, I’m on Euphoria,'” reminding Yang, she is a professional with this kind of stuff.
Lastly, Yang spoke about the future of his GLAAD Media Award nominated podcast Las Culturistas, he hosts with actor Matt Rogers. “That’s the thing that has been a completely linear sort of growth for me. It’s like the more time goes on, the more we love to do it.”
He goes on to say that, “I think people got a little freaked out when Tina Fey came on. She was like, ‘You guys, either you choose this path, either you guys are podcasters or you guys are movie stars.'” To that Yang and Rogers say, “Oh, we’re gonna try to do both for as long as we can.”
