Spirit Day was truly a global phenomenon, with organizations from around the world going purple and sending a message of support to LGBTQ youth.
The United Nations set the tone by highlighting a fact sheet titled “LGBTIQ+ Youth: Bullying and Violence at School” through UN Free & Equal, an initiative of the United Nations Human Rights Office.
One startling statistic shared was that 45% of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and trans youth globally report being bullied at school.
Young #LGBTIQ+ people are more likely to experience bullying, abuse, and isolation than their peers.
We need everyone to come together to end bullying in schools.
Be an ally – not just on #SpiritDay but every day! #InclusiveEducation #EndBullying pic.twitter.com/ZsY0tW4eoo

Other organizations also joined the movement, speaking to the LGBTQ youth in their own countries and sending a message around the globe.
