Reality star, actress, author, style icon, and most importantly – mother, The Real Housewives of Orange County’s Heather Dubrow has long been an outspoken ally to the LGBTQ community. As the parent of multiple LGBTQ kids, Dubrow has dedicated her platform to advocating for queer rights and acceptance.
In this time where anti-LGBTQ legislation and hate are on the rise, Dubrow is committed to speaking with parents of queer and trans children to help them affirm their children’s’ identities.
During pride month, Dubrow took the time to talk with GLAAD’s Yolanda Lenge about motherhood and allyship.
Dubrow spoke about her and her husband Dr. Terry Dubrow’s decision to continue documenting their family’s lives on national television. She said she thought that “maybe there’s a moment where we can show our normal functioning, healthy family on television, on this huge platform. Maybe it can help some other families and start conversations in other people’s homes.”

Dubrow went on to say that, “Representation is very important. If someone doesn’t see something, it’s not familiar to them and they don’t understand it.” This is why it is so important to have families like the Dubrows in the mainstream media.

She spoke about how lucky she feels to be the mother of such diverse and open minded children. “The wisdom that they inherently have is incredible. Especially this generation. They’re amazing. They’re accepting, they’re interesting, they’re smart, and they’ve taught me so much.”
Dubrow’s advice to parents of LGBTQ children is quite simple. “Love them, protect them, and support them.”
