Every week, The GLAAD Wrap brings you LGBTQ-related entertainment news highlights, fresh stuff to watch out for, and fun diversions to help you kick off the weekend.
1.) Meet the man behind the infamous character Pee-wee Herman in the trailer for HBO’s posthumous documentary Pee-wee as Himself. The two-part special explores the legacy of Paul Reubens, offering a window into his never-before-discussed personal life by severing his beloved alter ego from his authentic self. In the soul-baring interview, Paul discusses his relationship with a painter, Guy, whom he credits with inspiring some of Pee-wee’s mannerisms. Watch both parts of the doc May 23 on HBO or streaming on Max!
2.) Netflix kicks off prom season in the trailer for Fear Street: Prom Queen, premiering on May 23. In the fourth film in the Fear Street franchise, a gutsy outsider learns that she’s in for one hell of a prom night. As Shadyside High’s wolfpack of It Girls jockey for the crown, including Megan Rogers (out actress Suzanna Son), candidates start to disappear without a trace. Watch the trailer below!
3.) The Four Horsemen have returned in the official Now You See Me: Now You Don’t trailer! The third movie in the magician heist series introduces new illusionists, including queer actor Justice Smith, who deliver unprecedented magical feats. Check out the trailer below and catch the pic in theaters November 14.
4.) Ethan Coen’s dark comedy Honey, Don’t! is coming to the silver screen August 22! The second in the “lesbian B-movie trilogy” following Drive-Away Dolls, the film follows Honey O’Donahue (Margaret Qualley), a small-town private investigator who delves into a series of strange deaths tied to a mystery woman (Aubrey Plaza) and a cult leader (Chris Evans). In more release date updates, Sundance comedy Twinless finalized a sale to Roadside Attractions and Lionsgate, landing in theaters September 5. The queer drama explores grief, loss and codependency, following two friends (James Sweeney and Dylan O’Brien) who meet in a twin bereavement support group and form an unlikely bond.

5.) The trailer for Jillian Bell’s raunchy directorial debut Summer of 69 has arrived! Featuring out actors Paula Pell and Natalie Morales, the pic finds SNL’s Chloe Fineman playing an exotic dancer hired by high school senior Abby (Sam Morelos) to help her learn how to seduce her longtime crush. Watch the trailer below and stream Summer of 69 on Hulu May 9!
6.) Out actors Zane Phillips and Jelani Alladin are set to star in the queer erotic thriller Strangers on the Beach. Inspired by David Lynch and Brian DePalma’s 1980s noir films, the pic is set in San Francisco in 1983 as a mysterious killer targets gay men. In other casting news, lesbian actress Fiona Shaw is set to lead the absurdist western comedy The Stalemate. In the film, a robber and a sheriff must negotiate their way out of an unending chase in the Old West. Keep an eye out for more info on these upcoming films!

7.) Nicole Kidman returns as the mysterious wellness guru Masha Dmitrichenko in the anticipated trailer for Nine Perfect Strangers season two! In the sophomore season, a brand new group of strangers — including couple Tina (lesbian and genderqueer singer King Princess) and Wolfie (queer actress Maisie Richardson-Sellers) alongside Brian (gay actor Murray Bartlett) — are pushed to their limits at a transformative wellness retreat in the snowy Austrian Alps. Check out the trailer below and watch the first two episodes on Hulu May 21.
8.) Prime Video dropped the official trailer for Benito Skinner’s queer coming-of-age series Overcompensating. The college-set ensemble comedy centers on Benny’s (Skinner) wild and chaotic journey as a closeted former football player and homecoming king as he becomes fast friends with Carmen (Wally Baram), a high school outsider on a mission to fit in at all costs. 9.) Paramount Plus released the official trailer for the third season of revival series Criminal Minds: Evolution, featuring Aisha Tyler as queer character Dr. Tara Lewis. The new season picks up six months after the prisoners attacked the notorious Sicarius Killer, leading his restless followers on the dark web to begin wreaking havoc all over the country. Watch the trailer below and don’t miss the season premiere on May 8 with new episodes dropping Thursdays!
10.) Out screenwriter, producer and director Greg Berlanti is gearing up for three new projects! First, Amazon picked up his mind-bending horror thriller adaptation Stillwater, based on the Skybound comic book series of the same name. Hulu also bought the spec script Foster Dade, written by Berlanti and based on the Nash Jenkins’ 2023 novel about a mystery set in a boarding school. Finally, an undisclosed family drama is currently in negotiations at Max. Stay tuned for more information on these exciting releases!

11.) Queer electronic music artist, producer and multi-instrumentalist Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith shared the new song “Drip,” the album opener from her forthcoming full-length Gush. Watch the music video below, which was choreographed by Vogue dancer Kailani Rae and directed by Malachi of Haus of Basquiat! Additionally, queer vocalist and singer-songwriter chlothegod released a deluxe edition of her recent EP I Feel Different Every Day. Finally, emerging non-binary artist Burry debuted the highly anticipated music video for their breakout single “TV GLOW,” capturing the essence of queer awakening.
12.) The winners of the 85th Peabody Awards have been announced, including LGBTQ-inclusive projects Queendom, Will & Harper, Any Other Way: The Jackie Shane Story, Baby Reindeer, Fantasmas, Ripley, We Are Lady Parts, Pulse: The Untold Story, and more!
