Every week, The GLAAD Wrap brings you LGBTQ-related entertainment news highlights, fresh stuff to watch out for, and fun diversions to help you kick off the weekend.
1.) The Toronto International Film Festival announced its lineup this week, and features a number of queer films. Christy, a biopic about the life and career of queer boxing icon Christy Martin, including her relationship with rival turned romantic partner Lisa Holeywine, will have its world premiere at the festival. As will Lilith Fair: Building a Mystery a documentary on about Sarah McLachlan’s all-female music festival, which aims to “give a deeper understanding of the festival to the young female, nonbinary and queer musicians and music fans who picked up a guitar or tickets to a concert for the first time because Lilith showed them how,” according to queer director Ally Pankiw. Sk+te’kmujue’katik (At the Place of Ghosts) will also feature in TIFF’s 2025 Platform programme, which sees auteurs compete. The film is a queer Two-Spirit coming-of-age film that sees two brothers seek to avenge the spirits that haunt them from childhood. Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery, the third in the franchise led by queer detective Benoit Blanc, will also make its world premiere at the festival.

2.) Warner Bros. Pictures has acquired the rights to adapt out writer and actor Chris Colfer’s bestselling children’s book series The Land of Stories! The series follows twins Alex and Connor who, having just lost their father, find themselves in a magic book where fairy tales are real. 3.) Focus Features upcoming adaptation of Jane Austen’s Sense & Sensibility added a number of new cast members this week, including out actor Fiona Shaw. Shaw will play Mrs. Jennings in the film, a woman who the sisters stay with on a trip to London. Stay tuned for more news on Sense & Sensibility

4.) Heightened Scrutiny, a new documentary following the first transgender person person to argue before the Supreme Court, is in theaters in Los Angeles now! Chase Strangio, an ACLU attorney fighting to overturn Tennessee’s ban on gender-affirming care for trans youth in United States vs. Skrmetti. The film also features insights from trans journalist Gina Chua and trans activists like Laverne Cox. If you are in LA, don’t miss Heightened Scrutiny, in theaters now!
5.) Hulu announced the release date for season five of Only Murders in the Building this week! The season will see the cast, including queer main character Mabel and supporting character Howard, investigate the murder of beloved doorman Lester. Out actors Nathan Lane and Beanie Feldstein are also set to guest star in the cast. Stay tuned for more news on Only Murders in the Building!

6.) Apple TV+ announced the premiere date and a brief clip of season three of hit comedy Loot! Loot centers on billionaire Molly Novak (Maya Rudolph), whose life of luxury is dismantled when she discovers that her husband of twenty years has cheated on her. After a very public, tabloid-fuelled breakdown, a charity foundation run by the no-nonsense Sofia (out Pose star Michaela Jaé Rodriguez) offers to help Molly reconnect with the real world. With her loyal assistant Nicholas (out Fire Island star Joel Kim Booster) by her side, Molly embarks on a journey of self-discovery. Season three also guest stars out actor Zane Phillips. Don’t miss Loot when it premieres on Apple TV+ on October 15!
7.) Ted Lasso, the hit sports comedy, released a first look at season four, as well as a list of returning cast members! Ted Lasso season four will see the titular coach return to Richmond, this time to coach a division II women’s football team. Returning cast includes Juno Temple as queer character Keeley. 8.) Queer artist Joey Miceli released his second studio album Pretenders today! The concept album explores identity, longing, and illusion, and features his signature ethereal sound. Stream the album now!
9.) The Off-Broadway revival of hit musical The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee announced the first batch of cast members this week! The show is set at a fictional middle school as a group of misfits duke it out to reign supreme in spelling. The cast includes out actor Kevin McHale as William Barfee, a role that he played in a brief run at the Kennedy Center. Previews begin on November 7, with an official opening on November 17. The limited run will go until February 15, 2026, so get your tickets now!

10.) Comedians Mano Agapion and Oscar Montoya have struck a production and distribution deal with Good Get Productions for Drag Her! A RuPaul’s Drag Race Podcast. The show sees Agapion and Montoya recap episodes of RuPaul’s Drag Race, discuss queer pop culture, and chat with Drag Race contestants and comedian superfans.
