1.) Ponyboi, the first feature written by and starring an intersex person, Salvadorian-American filmmaker and activist River Gallo, hit select theaters today! Set over the course of a chaotic Valentine’s Day, the pic centers on an intersex sex worker (Gallo) who goes on the run from the mob while confronting his past and trying to find his place in the world. Directed by Esteban Arango, Ponyboi stars out actors Indya Moore and Murray Bartlett alongside Dylan O’Brien and Victoria Pedretti. 2.) The sun-soaked drama Hot Milk is now in theaters! Based on Deborah Levy’s acclaimed novel, the film follows Sofia (Emma Mackey) as she embarks on a journey to the Spanish coast to find a cure for her mother Rose’s (Fiona Shaw) mysterious illness. Along the way, Sofia begins to shed her inhibitions as she is drawn to the magnetic charms of a free spirited traveler, Ingrid (Vicky Krieps). Find the trailer below and watch Hot Milk today.
3.) MUBI unveiled the official trailer for Alex Russell’s LGBTQ psychological thriller Lurker. Featuring pansexual actress Havana Rose Liu, the film follows a retail employee who infiltrates the inner circle of an artist on the verge of stardom. As he gets closer to the budding music star, access and proximity becomes a matter of life and death. Watch the trailer below and catch Lurker in theaters August 22!
4.) Rent Free, Tribeca Festival’s U.S. Narrative Competition-winning LGBTQ comedy-drama, is available on VOD. The sophomore film from Fernando Andrés follows best friends Ben (Jacob Roberts) and Jordan (David Treviño), who, after hitting emotional and financial rock bottom, come up with a scheme to spend an entire year living “rent free” with the help of friends, family, and strangers alike in a rapidly changing Austin, Texas. 5.) The new genre-defying docuseries Alphabet Soup is streaming on Peacock and Prime Video today! Directed by Shannon Alexander, this reimagined dating show offers an emotionally raw portrait of queer connection—centering the voices of trans, nonbinary, and BIPOC individuals navigating intimacy, identity, and self-expression. 6.) Queer screenwriter Georgia Oakley is set to direct a new adaptation of Jane Austen’s “Sense and Sensibility” for Focus Features and Working Title! Starring Daisy Edgar-Jones, this fresh take on the popular 18th century novel centers on the impoverished Dashwood family, following the romantic exploits of sisters Elinor and Marianne as they navigate a new life with their widowed mother. 7.) Out actor and filmmaker Jim Rash is set to star in horror-comedy Horrified alongside Julie Benz, Busy Philips, and Ron Perlman! The film follows down-on-her-luck scream queen (Benz), who returns to the horror convention circuit to find the pig-masked killer from her old franchise weaponizing her cult legacy against her friends and fans. 8.) Starz unveiled a teaser and first-look photos for the third and final season of the hit drama Power Book IV: Force. In season three, queer characters JB Gibbs (Anthony Fleming III) and Claudia Flynn (Lili Simmons) return and Tommy (Joseph Sikora) must balance offense and defense to survive and protect everything he’s worked for. Watch the trailer below and catch the final season this fall!
9.) Messer—the solo project of three-time Grammy winner Mitch Grassi of renowned a cappella group Pentatonix—announced his sophomore EP Cuts, out July 18, alongside a new single “Not Yet” and a visualizer. Additionally, GLAAD Board Member and multi-hyphenate Frankie Grande dropped his eagerly awaited debut album Hotel Rock Bottom and Canadian folk-pop singer-songwriter Rose Cousins released a new cover of Chappell Roan’s “Good Luck, Babe!” Indie rock band The Beaches also shared their new single “Touch Myself,” off their highly anticipated studio album No Hard Feelings, out August 29, and transgender pop powerhouse Kim Petras dropped the brand-new single “Polo.” In more music news, The Irrepressibles, the creative guise of composer-songwriter-producer Jamie Irrepressible, released the song What I Am, Queer! with an official music video. Acclaimed nonbinary artist G Flip also debuted the official music video for “Big Ol’ Hammer,” found below, and singer-songwriter and actress Reneé Rapp dropped the new single MAD with an official music video. Additionlly, queer indie dream pop artist Susannah Joffe shared the anticipated EP Cult Leader, NIIVA debuted her sophomore EP Fussy, featuring Canada’s Drag Race winner Queen Priyanka on the title track, and queer country artist Andrew Mitch unveiled the single and visualizer “back home boy“! Finally, the band The Aces announced their sapphic disco-pop record Gold Star Baby, out August 15, and released the single “You Got Me.”
10.) The 38th edition of the Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards crowned a bevy of LGBTQ stars and programs! This year’s winners include XO, Kitty, Wicked, Auli’i Cravalho for voicing Moana in Moana 2, and Cynthia Erivo for the song “Defying Gravity.” Check out the full list of 2025 winners.
