1.) Amazon MGM Studios’ Sundance crowd-pleaser My Old Ass hits select theaters today! In this fresh coming-of-age story, free-spirited teenager Elliot (Maisy Stella) comes face-to-face with her wisecracking 39-year-old self (Aubrey Plaza) on an 18th birthday mushroom trip. Before leaving for college, Elliott is determined to have one last summer of good times and girl-crushes. But when her “old ass” starts handing out warnings about what her younger self should and shouldn’t do, Elliott realizes she has to rethink everything about family, love, and what’s becoming a transformative summer. Catch My Old Ass in select theaters now before it goes wide on September 27!
2.) Greenwich Entertainment’s suspense thriller The Critic is now in theaters! Set in 1930’s London, the film follows Jimmy Erskine (out Academy Award-nominee Ian McKellen), the most feared theater critic of the time. Jimmy lives as flamboyantly as he writes and takes pleasure in savagely taking down anyone who fails to meet his standards. But when he finds his position of power under threat, Jimmy lures a struggling actress into a blackmail scheme with deadly consequences. 3.) Netflix’s new sci-fi action pic Uglies is available to stream today! Based on Scott Westerfeld’s 2005 dystopian novel of the same name, Uglies is set in a futuristic world with enforced beauty standards where a teen (Joey King) who awaits mandatory cosmetic surgery embarks on a journey to find her missing friend. Watch the trailer below and keep an eye out for trans trailblazer Laverne Cox as Dr. Cable, the head of Special Circumstances, a secret police organization in the city.
4.) The ViX original documentary Unfightable is making its theatrical debut in New York! From Emmy Award-winning director Marc J. Perez, the doc tells the extraordinary story of Alana McLaughlin, a distinguished U.S. Army Special Forces Sergeant and transgender athlete fighting for control of her life and her narrative by competing as a professional MMA fighter. Don’t miss Unfightable in Los Angeles September 20 or streaming on ViX and Fuse in October!
5.) Sony Pictures unveiled a new trailer for Saturday Night, featuring out stars Cory Michael Smith, Ella Hunt and Naomi McPherson! Based on the real-life behind-the-scenes accounts of Saturday Night Live’s opening night, the film depicts the chaos and magic of a revolution that changed TV forever. Saturday Night will open September 27 in select theaters in Los Angeles, New York City and Toronto before going limited on October 4 and breaking wide on October 11; watch the trailer below!
6.) Searchlight Pictures shared the official trailer for Hold Your Breath, starring Sarah Paulson! The psychological thriller is set in 1930’s Oklahoma amid the region’s horrific dust storms. In the film, Margaret (Paulson) is convinced that a sinister presence in the dust is threatening her family as she grieves a loss and desperately tries to protect her daughter. 7.) The first clip and images of Rebel Wilson’s feature directorial debut The Deb have been released! The film follows queen bee Maeve (Charlotte MacInnes) at her exclusive private school, whose misguided crusade provokes outrage and gets her canceled by her peers. In response, Maeve’s Mom sends her off to an Outback town to stay with her cousin Taylah (Natalie Abbott), who lacks Maeve’s privilege and is unschooled in her cousin’s newfound progressiveness. Wilson also plays an aspiring local “cool mom” in the film; check out the images and watch the clip below!
8.) The first-look at Kristen Stewart’s feature directorial debut has also arrived! In this adaptation of author Lidia Yuknavitch’s 2011 best-selling memoir of the same name, The Chronology of Water is about “turning trauma into art.” The film follows Lidia (Imogen Poots) from her earliest childhood memories in an in-depth exploration of sexuality and creativity. 9.) Non-binary actor Emma Corrin boarded 100 Nights of Hero alongside Maika Monroe, Nicholas Galitzine and Charli XCX! The feminist fairy tale, based on Isabel Greenberg’s graphic novel of the same name, follows a charming houseguest (Galitzine) in a remote castle as the delicate dynamic between a neglectful husband, his innocent bride Cherry (Monroe), and their devoted maid Hero (Corrin) is thrown into chaos.

10.) HBO ordered a new ensemble series starring, written and executive produced by Rachel Sennott! The project—also starring out writer, producer, and comedian Jordan Firstman alongside Odessa A’zion, Miles Robbins and True Whitaker—centers on a codependent friend group that reunites and navigates how time apart, ambition, and new relationships have changed them. 11.) Halsey unleashed the official video for the single “Ego” from their upcoming album The Great Impersonator, out October 25. Pre-save the album and watch the Halsey-written and directed video below! In more music news, Charli XCX dropped the new remix “Talk Talk” featuring Troye Sivan and electro-pop princess LEXXE transformed Sapphic Summer into Disco Witch Autumn with her single “Queen of the Night!” St. Lenox also shared the new orchestral indie-pop single “Quasi-Nichomachean Ethics (Drunk Uncle Advice)” off their upcoming album Ten Modern American Work Songs, due out October 25; check out the music video!
