1.) I Was Born This Way, an upcoming documentary that chronicles the life of Archbishop Carl Bean, who performed the titular gay disco track in the 1970s, released a trailer this week! The film tracks Bean’s life from his youth and experiences growing up Black and queer, to his music career, where he released the hit song, and his eventual departure from music to start the “Minority AIDS Project” and the first church for LGBTQ people of color. The documentary is co-executive produced by queer icon Billy Porter, and is set to debut at Tribeca on June 5. Stay tuned for more updates on I Was Born This Way!
2.) Amazon MGM Studios dropped the premiere date and first-look images of The Pickup, an upcoming action-comedy! The film follows two armored truck drivers, Russell and Travis, who end up ambushed as criminal mastermind Zoe executes a plan that goes far beyond the cash. The pair must navigate this terrible day while dealing with their clashing personalities, deathly danger, and more. Zoe is played by bisexual actress and media personality Keke Palmer. Don’t miss The Pickup when it premieres on Prime Video on August 6!

3.) Love & Chaos, a new film from queer director Drew Denny, has set a cast of six main characters, and it is very queer! The film will follow a group of college-aged improv actors that are hired to star in a reality TV show and then are abandoned in Europe when the show goes bankrupt. They must then try to traverse the continent to make it to an international improv competition. The cast includes transgender actress Lux Pascal, bisexual actress Anna Akana, and gay actor Warren Egypt Franklin. Keep and eye out for more news about Love & Chaos!

4.) NewFest kicks off its annual Pride film series this week in New York City, and this year the film festival is teaming up with AMC Networks to distribute a curated collection of LGBTQ+ shorts. There will be six shorts by LGBTQ filmmakers streaming on AMC+ this month as part of the “Future of Film” initiative. The films are City of Dreamz by Imani Celeste, Gender Reveal by Mo Matton, Hot Seat by Sohrob Nayebaziz, Lovin’ Her by Day, MnM by Twiggy Pucci Garçon, and Zari by Shruti Parekh. Check out these short films, streaming on AMC+ on June 1!

5.) Max’s very queer hit comedy Hacks has been renewed for a fifth season! The show follows bisexual writer Ava (played by bisexual actress Hannah Einbinder) and aging Las Vegas comedy legend Deborah Vance as they work together to revitalize Vance’s career. There is also a supporting cast of queer characters that appear in the show, such as Damien, played by gay actor Mark Indelicato, Marcus, played by queer nonbinary actor Carl Clemons-Hopkins, and more. 6.) In other Hacks related news, lesbian comedian and Hacks breakout Robby Hoffman is set to co-write and star in Unentitled, a new comedy series at HBO. The show follows Hoffman as an alternative version of herself, a contrarian who is pursuing her dream of making a living as a comedian. Hoffman is co-writing the show with gay writer Karey Dornetto (Fallout). Report back for more news about Unentitled!

7.) Apple TV+ announced the premiere date and released first-look photos for season four of The Morning Show this week! The hit show follows a morning news team as they navigate the unique challenges of an early-morning operation. The new season will see the team attempt to navigate an increasingly polarized political climate. Show lead Bradley is bisexual. Stay tuned for more news about season four of The Morning Show.

8.) Peacock has announced the cast of season three of hit reality show House of Villains, the first season on the streamer since its move from E! Entertainment Network. The new season will once again see the return of Tiffany “New York” Pollard, as well as RuPaul’s Drag Race contestant Plane Jane. Look out for more news about House of Villains!

9.) T’Nia Miller has been added to the cast of Marvel’s upcoming Vision television series for Disney+ in a major role. Miller, who is a lesbian, is supposed to be playing Jocasta, a revenge-driven robot that Ultron builds to be his wife and who eventually signs with the Avengers. Vision will take place after the events of WandaVision, as ghost Vision, a new version of Vision that Wanda created, explores his new life. Stay tuned for more news about Vision!

10.) Queer singer-songwriter Betty Who released her new single and music video “Sweat” this week, in advance of her performance at World Pride in June! In other music news, queer artist Susannah Joffe released her new single “Horses Can’t Outrun Me” this week, and lesbian soul singer Lois Levin released her single “Felt.” Cafuné, pop-duo that includes queer artist Sedona Schat, released their single “e-Asphyxiation” this week, and LGBTQ artist Gina Zo’s new single and music video “Dirty Habits” was released earlier this week as well. Queer artists Kate Nash released a new single “GERM,” and indie rock bank The Beaches released their new single “Did I Say Too Much” and announced a tour this week! Finally, queer country artist Andrew Mitch shared his third single of the year, “unapologetic,” and LGBTQ alt-pop singer-songwriter Sophia Warren dropped her sophomore EP Adesso!
11.) The first ever Broadway revival of Art by Yasmina Reza is set to return to the stage this fall! The comedy follows a group of three friends who find themselves in an argument about what counts as art when one of them purchases an all-white painting. Tony Award-winning gay actor Neil Patrick Harris will play the friend who purchases the art, Serge. Previews are set to begin on August 28 at the Music Box Theater, and the show will officially open on September 16 for a 17 week limited run. Stay tuned for more news and updates on Art!

12.) The American Music Awards, the largest fan-voted awards show, returned after a two year hiatus this week, and queer performers took home a bevy of awards. Queer artist Billie Eilish led the pack, taking home seven awards, winning every category that she was nominated for, including “Artist of the Year” and “Album of the Year.” Bisexual rapper Doechii won “Social Song of the Year” for “Anxiety,” and queer legend Lady Gaga won “Collaboration of the Year” and “Favorite Music Video” for “Die With A Smile” and “Best Dance/Electronic Artist.” See the full list of winners here!
