Every week, The GLAAD Wrap brings you LGBTQ-related entertainment news highlights, fresh stuff to watch out for, and fun diversions to help you kick off the weekend.
1.) Queer cheerleading drama Backspot has finally hit the big screen! The film plunges Riley (bisexual actress Devery Jacobs) into the cut-throat world of competitive cheer when she and her girlfriend (Kudakwashe Rutendo) are selected for an all-star cheer squad. Her ambition comes head to head with her anxiety as she strives to meet the intense head coach’s demands—but will she falter under the pressure? Backspot has some great queer talent behind the scenes too, including executive producer Elliot Page and bisexual writer Joanne Sarazen. 2.) Bisexual actress Auliʻi Cravalho is back as Moana! Disney dropped the new teaser trailer for Moana 2 this week, giving us a taste of the sequel and its stunning animation. The trailer doesn’t give much away in terms of plot, but we can expect Moana to embark on another journey across the sea upon receiving an unexpected call from her wayfinding ancestors. Of course, some animal friends and demigod Maui (Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson) join her. Catch Moana 2 in theaters November 27, and watch the trailer below!
3.) Hidden Master: The Legacy of George Platt Lynes is in theaters and streaming on Amazon and Apple TV now! The intimate documentary revolves around the pioneering gay artist George Platt Lynes, who took radically explicit photographs of the male nude, and his lasting legacy as one of the first out gay American artists. 4.) Gay actor Andrew Scott has joined the star-studded Knives Out 3 cast! Officially titled Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery, the film sees detective Benoit Blanc’s “most dangerous case yet.” The whodunit mystery is expected to begin production soon and is currently set to premiere in 2025! In more casting news, queer actor Callum Scott Howells will portray aristocrat Henry Paget in Madfabulous. The indie film will follow the true story of “the dancing marquess” (as Henry Paget was known) including his fluid sexuality and gender identity, as well as his lavish lifestyle in the 19th Century. Also, non-binary actor Blu Del Barrio has been cast in queer heist feature Pink Moon! The drama centers on queer couple Mira (writer Meredith Johnston) and K (Del Barrio), living out of their van and struggling with their relationship. In an attempt for excitement and escape from their unhappy life, the pair plan a bank heist in a small Kansas town—a significantly difficult task given the state of their relationship. 5.) Gay comedian and actor Julio Torres is bringing us an incredible queer and surreal New York City in his upcoming HBO series Fantasmas! Over the course of six episodes, Torres will star as a fictionalized version of himself as he journeys across the city in search of a lost gold oyster-shaped earring—encountering a range of strange people and places along the way. A wealth of stars make up these unusual characters, including out talent Kim Petras and Tomas Matos. Experience the dreamlike world of Fantasmas in the trailer below, and get ready to stream the series on Max starting June 7!
6.) A first-look at The Umbrella Academy season four has arrived! Netflix dropped a teaser trailer this week, along with some early images of the upcoming final season. The superhero series centers on the journey of seven adopted siblings with special powers. You can see trans star Elliot Page—returning as Viktor Hargreeves—in the trailer below, and catch The Umbrella Academy’s final chapter streaming August 8!
7.) Things are heating up (literally) in the newest trailer for The Bear season three! The trailer puts us right back into the intense kitchen, as the crew struggles to navigate both the difficult restaurant business and their personal complex relationships. Among the chefs is queer actress Ayo Edebiri starring as Sydney. See Edebiri in the trailer below, and stream the new season on Hulu June 27!
8.) Popular comedy-drama Hacks has officially been renewed for season four! The series focuses on Ava Daniels (out actress Hannah Einbinder), a bisexual comedy writer trying to repair her reputation, who is hired by Vegas comedy legend Deborah Vance (Jean Smart) in order to revitalize her aging stand-up. Season four’s announcement comes with the release of the season three finale, so be sure to catch up on seasons one through three streaming on Max now!

9.) The Ultimatum: Queer Love—Netflix’s reality dating show featuring only women and nonbinary people—has been renewed for a second season! A release date has yet to be announced, but the series will be back with ten new episodes, six new couples, and a lot of new drama, as the couples decide if they are ready to commit to marriage or move on with a new partner. In more television news, bisexual actress Aubrey Plaza and Joe Wengert’s animated comedy series Kevin has landed at Prime Video! The new series will see Kevin the housecat embark on a journey of self-discovery as he foregos life with an owner. Stay tuned for more details!

10.) Gay singer and actor Ben Platt’s new album, Honeymind, is out now! Platt is currently performing at Broadway’s Palace Theatre as part of a three week residency (get tickets here!) before hitting the road for the rest of his Honeymind tour. You can also listen to record label and artist collective Revival’s newly released “Freedom,” a cover of George Michaels’ “Freedom!” featuring out vocalist Peyton and the GeO Gospel Choir—see the accompanying video here! In more queer music news, Adam Lambert shared the first two tracks, “Lube” and “Wet Dream,” off his upcoming EP AFTERS (dropping July 19), and indie electro pop artists Boy Blu & Gregory Dillon released their new single “2 Deadly” with an official video. Plus, trans singer Britney Manson unveiled her new breakup song “I’m Sorry My Lovely Boy,” and drag star Sapphira Cristál released new single “Enough,” along with this music video.
