LGBTQ fans of the fine arts are in for a real treat! On Wednesday, June 26th, American Ballet Theater is celebrating Pride Night!
This night to remember will include a performance of Wayne McGregor’s Woolf Works, a ballet triptych which depicts the life and works of queer literary icon Virginia Woolf. The performance explores questions of sexuality and gender identity and expression.
Alessandra Ferri, who’s been fondly dubbed as “one of the greatest dramatic dancers of all time,” will appear as a guest artist in the opening performance on June 25th and again on June 28th at the Metropolitan Opera House. The former ABT Principal dancer joined the Royal Ballet at the age of 17 and was appointed principal dancer of the company when she was only 19. This performance, as one of ABT’s 2024 Summer season celebratory evenings, will be dedicated to honoring the iconic Ferri and her inspiring career.

In addition to this exciting onstage performance, American Ballet Theater is honoring the LGBTQ community with a Pride Insert in each Playbill. It speaks to Woolf’s legacy as a queer woman and highlights local LGBTQ organizations.
There will also be an exhibit spotlighting ABT’s first Hair & Makeup Supervisor Leopold Allen, a gay, Black man who was a cornerstone of ABT for over ten years before losing his life to AIDS.
On top of this, ABT will host a Pride Silent Disco on the Lincoln Center promenade following the performance, hosted by Connor Holloway and DJ Remeice. Get more information on this free event here!
