The popular show Enamorándonos on UniMás will celebrate its first on-air same sex wedding April 27, when contestants Cristal and Jatziry get married. This will be the show’s 16th wedding and the first to feature a same-sex couple.

It’s a pleasure to share with you the nominees for the 34th Annual GLAAD Media Award in Spanish-Language scripted series and TV, digital and multimedia journalism, as well as a special recognition. It’s a list that includes LGBTQ+ voices brought to life through rigorous research, humorous storytelling or a casual one-on-one interview.

This year, Spanish-language television shows, hosts and personalities showed up to support LGBTQ youth on Spirit Day!

GLAAD presents this week’s LGBTQ+ Latinx pop culture highlights.

From TV’s must-watch programs, the Premio Lo Nuestro awards and Rebelde, to the latest podcasts, Del Pueblo Católico y Gay and The Super Secret Bestie Club. Not to mention highlights on Latinx artist Ruby Marquez, better known as Broobs, and D.C.’s annual LGBTQ+ literary festival. 

One could argue that media tells the story of a culture, which is one of the reasons why it is so important for LGBTQ+ people to be included in the stories that appear in all forms of entertainment media as well as journalism. Not only do we feel seen, but it helps our families and friends know us better. If, that is, the stories are told well. It’s a pleasure to share with you some very well-told stories: the nominees for the 33rd Annual GLAAD Media Award in Spanish-Language scripted series and digital and multimedia journalism, as well as a special recognition.

The 2021 Latin GRAMMY Awards will take place on Thursday night, Nov. 18, and this year, the nominees list is filled with names from the LGBTQ+ Latine community.

This year, many influential Latine celebrities joined #SpiritDay to stand against bullying. Celebs like Thalia, Ana Maria Polo, Juan Pablo Espinosa, and Juan Pablo Di Pace have already gone purple. So have the casts of the Q Agenda on LATV, and the casts of hugely popular Spanish-Language morning shows Despierta América on Univision and Hoy Día on Telemundo. The shows have shared messages of support for LGBTQ youth and done segments on Spirit Day that help educate their millions of viewers on the need to combat bullying in schools, at home and everywhere.

One again this year it was fantastic to see the casts of leading Spanish-language shows go purple for #SpiritDay. The casts of the morning show Despierta América on Univision and of Un Nuevo Día on Telemundo all rocked purple again this year, as did the hosts of Primer Impacto and The Zoo on LATV. Spanish-language streamer Pantaya joined #SpiritDay and turned various channels purple.
