They spoke about how pioneers like Ken Jeong paved the way for rising stars like Sherry Cola. Cola, who recently starred in the hit film Joy Ride, talks about how she got her start doing stand up and then hosting a radio show.
Cola also recently appeared on the GLAAD Media Award nominated series Good Trouble. She talks about how her character on the show, Alice’s coming out, inspired her to come out as queer in her real life.
“There were so many people in my DMs feeling touched by this character,” she shares. “I was like, let me come out to my mom. Let me have this conversation that’s been so overdue.”
She goes on to praise the fellow Asian American stars she’s so happy to see thriving. “It really is a group project now. We’re so fired up.”
“I want to see you win,” she says to Jeong. “And I want to see you win,” she points to Lopez. “If you win, I can still win,” she explains, it’s not a competition. “It’s so beautiful, and that’s what it’s all about. Giving someone else a chance.”
Jeong commends Cola and shares that Joy Ride is one of his favorite movies of all time. “It’s not about how you got famous, it’s what you do with your fame once you get it.”
