The Official Boulet Brothers’ Dragula Season 5 Tour is embarking on a journey, bringing forth screams, nightmares, and dreams to a city near you. Headlined by The Boulet Brothers themselves and featuring the reigning Drag Supermonster, Niohuru X, alongside Blackberri, Orkgotik, and Throb Zombie, this spine-chilling tour guarantees to leave a lasting impression of horror and terror. In an exclusive interview with GLAAD, the supermonsters discuss drag, acceptance within the queer community, and the tour.
Throb Zombie highlights the distinctive aspects that make ‘Dragula’ significant and unparalleled within the community, “It is the first drag competition in this much of a public eye to welcome artists of all gender identities.’ Throb Zombie is a drag entertainer based in Boston, who identifies as bisexual and excels in the realm of horror entertainment. With more than 6 years of experience in drag and a lifetime dedicated to performing, Throb Zombie has mesmerized, terrified, and delighted audiences globally.
The supermonsters of Dragula are undeniably unique and well-versed in overcoming obstacles. Orkgotik talks about the challenges presented by those who aim to limit the community’s rights, “People are scared of the ones who aren’t afraid when challenging their comfort zone. Drags are humans. We’re not perfect but people who have art as a constant medium of expression mostly can only bring great things for any community.” Orkgotik is a skilled visual artist who transforms into creations that consistently explore the allure of horror and the elegance found within trauma.
All of the monsters have experienced obstacles in life as a drag performers and the bearded beauty of Texas, Blackberri emphasizes, “It is important to express yourself as proudly as possible to show the world how strong and resilient we are as a Community while also inspire those who may be scared or feel alone. You never know how many loves you can touch just by being your most authentic self.” Blackberri is a highly esteemed drag queen in Houston, showcasing a diverse range of talents on Dragula such as comedy, acting, and extraordinary performance skills.
Dragula consistently pushes the boundaries of societal norms, and Niohuru X, the victor of season 5, raised the standards with their extraordinary ideas and unparalleled self-expression as a futuristic Chinese vampire.“ Drag as self expression is my way of reinventing myself. I hated who I was so much that I used drag to create a new identity. The more I do it the more I become Vampire Chinese. Without drag I would still be that scared Chinese boy who is ashamed to be himself. Dragula is a platform that is truly open to all aesthetics of drag & all identities of artists. There are no limits. Dragula is redefining the horizon of queer art.”
