PHOTOS: GLAAD HOSTS INDUSTRY LEADERS FOR PRESENTATION OF 12TH STUDIO RESPONSIBILITY INDEX WITH SPECIAL GUEST SHERRY COLA IN L.A.
Los Angeles, CA – September 18, 2024 – Last night, GLAAD, the world’s largest and leading LGBTQ media advocacy organization, held a comprehensive and special presentation of the findings of its 12th annual Studio Responsibility Index (SRI) in West Hollywood for industry leaders, changemakers across film & entertainment, creators and performers. GLAAD President & CEO, Sarah Kate Ellis, and Senior Director of Entertainment Research & Analysis Megan Townsend, presented the findings with special guest, actress and comedian, Sherry Cola (Freeform’s Good Trouble, Shortcomings).
GLAAD’s SRI is an annual report which maps the quantity, quality, and diversity of LGBTQ characters in film. The Index also serves as a road map for studios, identifying priorities and opportunities to increase and improve fair, accurate and inclusive LGBTQ representation and storytelling in film. This year’s study found film distributors included in the study with low grades, overall LGBTQ inclusion down, including ‘alarmingly low’ transgender representation. LGBTQ lead characters saw an increase along with LGBTQ characters of color, according to the study.
GLAAD presented these findings in person with industry leaders to meet one-on-one and discuss constructive pathways toward effective and impactful LGBTQ inclusion in film, and discuss how GLAAD can be a partner to distributors at all levels of production.
