GLAAD is responding to news today of Facebook and Instagram extending their block on President Trump’s accounts indefinitely and through the next two weeks. GLAAD is calling for the ban to be made permanent and for Twitter to also ban President Trump.
“Donald Trump has long peddled in lies and conspiracy theories, incited violence, and encouraged white supremacy, using social media platforms to amplify his ignorance, misinformation and hate, placing every American at risk. He is directly responsible for the deaths, violence and terror inflicted at the Capitol on Wednesday.
For the safety of our country and democracy, Facebook’s “indefinite” ban on Donald Trump needs to be permanent. As the global LGBTQ media advocacy organization, GLAAD is calling on Twitter and CEO Jack Dorsey to also ban President Trump permanently before he puts more people in danger.”

GLAAD’s Trump Accountability Project has been tracking the Trump administration’s attacks against the LGBTQ community – 181 and counting in negative policies and dangerous rhetoric over the last four years: /tap/donald-trump
In July 2017, Pres. Trump tweeted that transgender people should be banned from military service, an announcement that took the Pentagon by surprise. His administration has deployed multiple federal departments to roll back protections against discrimination for LGBTQ people including the Department of Labor, Housing and Urban Development, Education, Health and Human Services and the Department of Justice, including arguing in three different Supreme Court cases for the right to discriminate.
GLAAD has organized a petition for supporters to sign onto our call for safety and permanently ban Donald Trump from social media platforms: /bantrump
