Statement from Sarah Kate Ellis, President & CEO of GLAAD
“Ghana’s dangerous legislation is appalling, dangerously targeting people for how they identify and the community they build. Leaders from the UN to Pope Francis have called for an end to LGBTQ criminalization worldwide. Even while other countries are dropping antiquated, colonial-era criminalization laws, Ghana is taking a step backwards for freedom and democracy. Criminalizing LGBTQ people, relationships, and even criminalizing LGBTQ allyship, serves only to further marginalize the LGBTQ community and put everyday Ghanaians in harm’s way. Ghana’s president must refuse to sign this dangerous legislation.”
