GLAAD STATEMENT AND RESOURCES ON 2025 PRESIDENTIAL INAUGURATION AND INCOMING ADMINISTRATION
(January 18, 2025 — New York, NY) — GLAAD is releasing a statement and resources for reporters and the LGBTQ community ahead of the 2025 presidential inauguration ceremony on Monday, January 20, and first 100 days of the incoming Trump administration.
GLAAD’s Trump Accountability Tracker is documenting the incoming president’s anti-LGBTQ policies and rhetoric, here.
GLAAD’s Biden Accountability Tracker documented more than 350 statements, appointments and policies to include and protect LGBTQ Americans, including appointing a record number of out LGBTQ federal judges. The Biden tracker is here.
Donald Trump’s inauguration will feature an invocation from Franklin Graham, who has spoken out against LGBTQ people and perpetuated lies about the community. Graham’s LGBTQ record is available here.
President-elect Donald Trump has vowed to sign a number of executive orders targeting the equality of people of color and of LGBTQ Americans, including and especially transgender people, in his first days in office.
Pres-elect Trump claimed during his campaign to “know nothing about” Project 2025’s plans to erase and dismantle resources for LGBTQ Americans, yet he nominated Project 2025’s Russell Vought as Director of the Office of Management and Budget, among other opponents of LGBTQ equality to other posts.
GLAAD’s President and CEO Sarah Kate Ellis (she/her) released the following statement:
“LGBTQ people are in all states, communities, families and workplaces, and leaders should include and protect us with the fundamental freedoms all Americans enjoy. On the day of the inauguration – which coincides with Martin Luther King Jr. Day, a celebration of one of our country’s most relentless civil rights heroes – we seek comfort in the long history of the fight for liberty and justice in America. We urge every reporter and all Americans to elevate everyone’s right to be themselves and be safe. Together we must hold the incoming administration to the promise of equal justice under law, and resist threats to our basic American right to live freely and with dignity.”

LGBTQ records of activist groups with deep ties and influence in the first and upcoming Trump administrations include Heritage, Alliance Defending Freedom, and lesser influencers (though well-known) so-called Moms for Liberty.
