GLAAD RESPONDS TO BIDEN RE-ELECTION ANNOUNCEMENT
GLAAD: “LGBTQ Americans’ safety is under attack in statehouses across the country, as extremists on the U.S. Supreme Court, federal judiciary and gerrymandered states continue to strip human rights vital to everyone’s future. Essential health care, book bans, and access to society as our authentic selves should never be up for debate but they are on the ballot in 2024. GLAAD will once again be tracking the records and rhetoric of candidates in order to educate LGBTQ people and our allies as they head to the polls.”
(New York, NY, April 25, 2023) GLAAD, the world’s largest lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) media advocacy organization, is responding to President Joe Biden’s announcement that he is running for re-election.
GLAAD has tracked more than 200 appointments, statements and policy moves for LGBTQ people made by the Biden-Harris administration since taking office. See the ongoing documentation in GLAAD’s Biden Accountability Tracker.
GLAAD President and CEO Sarah Kate Ellis responded on Twitter, and here:

Additional research:
Nearly 500 anti-LGBTQ bills have been proposed in state legislatures in 2023 as tracked by the Equality Federation.
Abortion is an LGBTQ issue and extremists proposing abortion bans are also targeting essential healthcare for transgender people that is supported by every major medical association (statements here).
GLAAD’s Media Guide: State Legislation About LGBTQ People offers facts, context, and resources to journalists in pursuit of fair and accurate reporting on legislation that is proposed without evidence and against the expertise of medical, educational, and human rights professionals that would have negative effects on the dignity, equality, and physical wellbeing of LGBTQ people.
