She IS the moment!
Priyanka sat down with GLAAD’s Tony Morrison to talk about what it took to build and create her debut album, what she wants fans to take away from her latest work and how she is all about giving them access to drag in her upcoming national tour.
The release of the album comes with an official music video for the title track “Devastatia,” which pictures a Godzilla-sized Priyanka taking over the city. Directed by Caroline Torti with choreography by Tatiana Parker, the video is a peek into Queen Priyanka’s mind and continues to build on the cinematic universe she started with her EP “Taste Test.” Here, she’s officially broken into the music industry and the video captures what not taking no for an answer is all about.
The album opens with “I’m a Star”, a track that takes a stand against the limitations imposed on Queen Priyanka and embodies the radical spirit of drag, backed by retro disco strings and groovy synth. And hot on its heels, “Toss Up” bounces with all the rambunctious, frenetic energy of late nights out, wearing glitter eye makeup and drinking espresso martinis at 8pm. A rebel without a cause, Queen Priyanka declares: “As long as those drinks are free / me and my girls in the back seat / Might catch a vibe / Might start a fight / It’s my kind of night”.
The album’s title track, “Devastatia,” is a bold statement of self-empowerment and unapologetic individuality. Queen Priyanka says of the single: “Imagine being so accidentally iconic, you offend everyone. That is DEVASTATIA. That is ME. That is probably you! We all have things about ourselves that we think are weird and dumb and make us different—Devastatia is you owning it, not giving a fuck and shaking your ass.”
“Problem Pageant” offers a refreshing take on confidence and self-acceptance, calling for us to simultaneously be proud of our problems and struggles, while continuing to show up and show out. “Bad Bitches Don’t Cry” is the perfect follow up with its hip-shaking, rave-reminiscent bass line and Priyanka’s addictively catchy lyricism intertwined with Canadian pop diva RALPH’s powerhouse vocals. Uproariously fierce, “No New Friends” is a mantra of finding true fulfillment from within, while “Shut It Down” is a classic club anthem buoyed by a sense of clarity that finds Queen Priyanka rising above toxic relationships and shining brighter than a shooting star.
Finally, the album comes to a close with the heart-pumping “GUCCIYANKA”, a Bollywood inspired track featuring Canadian drag superstar, Lemon, that will unleash your inner queen and make you feel like you can take over the world with no insecurities.
Devastatia is more than an album; it’s a celebration of self-expression, resilience, and unapologetic glamor. Queen Priyanka is magnetic, as she pulls everyone around her into her fierce world of self-actualization and inner strength. Her unique voice and empowering vision shine through every track, offering all of us, and herself, permission to walk boldly, find strength in self-discovery, and love our messy and sparkling lives.
