Today and every day, we celebrate transgender visibility in news and entertainment, and not just in the U.S. but around the world. Here are a few interviews in Spanish (and one in English and Spanish) that did just that.
Among the many nominees for the Spanish-Language GLAAD Media Awards was an interview, from Mexico City-based homosensual.com, with the activist Ari Vera who leads the organization Almas Cautivas, which advocates for LGBTQ people who are imprisoned.
Also from Mexico comes a profile of Ophelia Pastrana, a self-described “nerd” and leading Mexican influencer. Pastrana, named one of Mexico’s 100 most powerful women by Forbes, combines her love of science (She has degrees in Physics and Economics) with humor on her popular YouTube channel. She was one of four Pride month interviews of LGBTQ leaders in Mexico done by Gatopardo.com.
Check out this interview in Elle España, with actress Abríl Zamora who co-stars with Sophia Loren in “The Life Ahead” on Netflix and has a role in “The Mess You Leave Behind” also on Netflix. In the video she discusses her early career, making it as an actress and life experiences.
And from Miami’s leading paper Miami Herald/El Nuevo Herald, comes “Soy Trans: El camino a un nuevo despertar” a multi-part story that interviews, in both Spanish and English, several trans leaders and helps viewers gain a deeper understanding of both the challenges and successes of its subjects.
