President Joe Biden has announced the full designation of the Presidential Delegations to Paris who will attend the Opening and Closing Ceremonies and events of the 2024 Olympic Games.
The delegations will by led by First Lady Jill Biden at the Opening Ceremony, and Second Gentleman Douglas Emhoff at the closing ceremony.
The U.S. delegation comprises of a diverse array of politicians and athletes from across the country and will include a number of out LGBTQ notables and athletes who will represent the USA:
Brian Boitano
Boitano is a three-time Olympian and figure skating gold medalist. After retiring from skating professionally, he married composer, pianist, and writer Daron Hagen in 2013
Laphonza Butler
Senator Butler serves as the junior United States senator from California since 2023. She is the first Black lesbian to openly serve in Congress in American history.
Representative Robert Garcia
Congressman Garcia serves as the U.S. representative for California’s 42nd congressional district since 2023. The out politician works tirelessly defending our democracy, leveling the playing field with progressive education policy, addressing the climate crisis, supporting working families with increasing wages, and fighting to expand and protect essential rights for women, immigrants, and the LGBTQ community.
Briana Scurry
Briana Scurry is a two-time Olympian, two-time Olympic gold medalist, and World Cup Champion in Women’s Soccer. The out goalkeeper published a memoir in 2022 called and is married to Chryssa Zizos, CEO of Live Wire Strategic Communications.
