If there was ever a time to be a queer country music fan, it would be 2024! With more and more LGBTQ artists joining the scene and allied legends speaking out in support of the community, the genre is more inclusive than ever.
After releasing his debut album Blueneck this May, Chris Housman is back with a brand new music video!
The uplifting video of the album’s title track finds Housman driving through the rural American countryside in his electric car as he makes his way home from a day’s work he finds there are lots more “Bluenecks” out there than one might think.
With lyrics like “I think y’all means all and I know we all just want to know that we belong” and “there’s a lot more color in the mix when you’re loud and proud out in the sticks,” the song has quickly become a classic.
The album has garnered critical acclaim from outlets like NPR, USA Today, Billboard, Nashville Scene, and Country Universe, just to name a few, with Rolling Stone describing the song as “a defiant anthem of staying true to your heart in the face of a world that tells you to dim your shine.”
The video comes just weeks before Election Day on November 5th. In the spirit of democracy, the video even features a cameo from Democratic senate candidate for Tennessee, Gloria Johnson, one of the Tennessee Three.
Housman also recently performed at GLAAD and Ty Herndon’s 9th annual Concert For Love & Acceptance, which aims to harness the power of music and media to support mental health, LGBTQ and other at-risk youth, and Nashville’s country music community. Read more here.
