With countless awards to his name, Jerrod Carmichael can now add Golden Globes Host to his already impressive resume. The out comedian who has garnered critical acclaim for his Emmy Award winning comedy special Jerrod Carmichael: Rothaniel, has just been named the host of “Hollywood’s Party of the Year.”
The 80th Annual Golden Globe Awards serves as the official kickoff to the 2023 award season and will premiere live on January 10th. Every year, an icon in the industry has the honor of hosting this prestigious award show.
Jerrod Carmichael has been making waves in the entertainment world since his breakout performance in the 2014 comedy Neighbors. The multitalented actor, comedian, writer, and director also received an Emmy nomination for his hosting debut on Saturday Night Live. His autobiographical series The Carmichael Show, earned him multiple GLAAD Media Award and NAACP Image Award nominations.
In his groundbreaking 2022 HBO comedy special titled Jerrod Carmichael: Rothaniel, Carmichael made the courageous decision to come out as gay. His impact as an openly queer, successful, Black man in Hollywood will forever provide fans with the representation they deserve.
This announcement of Carmichael’s hosting comes following the 2021 exposé in the Los Angeles Times that noted the Hollywood Foriegn Press Association had no Black journalists among its 87 members. It also critisized its of lack of Black-led projects recieving nominations, specifically the omission of critically acclaimed projects like I May Destroy You and Da 5 Bloods. The HFPA has since stated that they are “committed to addressing” its undeniable lack of diversity.
