Every week, The GLAAD Wrap brings you LGBTQ-related entertainment news highlights, fresh stuff to watch out for, and fun diversions to help you kick off the weekend.
1.) The long anticipated sequel to The Devil Wears Prada announced a bundle of new fashionable cast members being put to the test at Runway Magazine. The cast list features a number of out actors, including Conrad Ricamora, who is coming off a Tony-nominated run in Oh, Mary, Helen J. Shen, who is currently in Maybe Happy Ending on Broadway and influencer, podcaster, and comedian Caleb Hearon. In other casting news, out actor Lily Gladstone was added to the cast of Amazon MGM Studios upcoming reimagining of The Thomas Crown Affair. There is no news yet on the role Gladstone will play.

2.) Tina Romero’s zombie horror comedy film Queens of the Dead was acquired by Independent Film Company (formerly IFC) and Shudder for North American distribution this week. The film sees a zombie apocalypse break out on the night of a massive warehouse party, which forces drag queens, club kids, and frenemies to work together to survive this catastrophic event. The cast of the film includes Katy O’Brian, Jacquel Spivey, Tomas Matos, Nina West, Jack Haven, Cheyenne Jackson, Dominique Jackson, Margaret Cho, Eve Lindley, Becca Blackwell, Shaunette Renée Wilson, and Julie J.! 3.) In film casting news this week, queer actor Lukita Maxwell was added to the cast of A24’s upcoming horror film The Backrooms. The storyline is currently being kept under wraps, other than that it is based on a found-footage YouTube channel that has garnered over 190 million views. In other casting news, queer actor Roberta Colindrez has joined the cast of Apple TV+ upcoming film Being Heumann, which is based on best-selling author Judy Heumann’s memoir. It follows Heumann as she leads a group of over 100 people with disabilities in a 28 day sit-in in the San Francisco Federal Building. Stay tuned for more film casting news!

4.) Apple TV+ dropped the trailer for the fourth and final season of Acapulco this week, and the twists and turns look almost as gorgeous as the landscape. The hit show follows Máximo Gallardo, a young Mexican man who lands his dream job at Acapulco’s hottest resort, Las Colinas. However, Máximo soon realizes that the job is more complicated than he expected as he faces conflicts with his family (including his lesbian sister Sara) and coworkers. The final season will premiere on July 23 with two episodes, and then weekly after that. Don’t miss the final season of Acapulco, streaming July 23 on Apple TV+!
5.) Apple TV+ dropped a teaser for season four of the hit workplace drama The Morning Show this week! The series follows a team of morning newscasters, including bisexual lead Bradley, as they go about their lives and navigate the responsibilities and culture of an early morning news show. Don’t miss The Morning Show when it premieres on September 17 on Apple TV+!
6.) Netflix released a teaser trailer for season two of My Life with the Walter Boys this week, and it looks as drama-filled as the first season! The show follows Jackie as a tragedy forces her to move in with her guardian’s big family in a small town, and finds herself caught in a love triangle. The show features gay characters Nathan (played by out actor Corey Fogelmanis) and Skylar. Season two of My Life with the Walter Boys premieres on Netflix on August 28.
7.) A new trailer for the highly anticipated season two of Wednesday, the Addams Family project from Netflix that focuses on Wednesday Addams, dropped this week! The show follows the titular Wednesday as she returns to Nevermore Academy for what promises to be another wild ride. The trailer gives us just a flash of gay actor Hunter Doohan, who, spoiler, played season one’s big bad and is now locked away. The first part of Wednesday drops on August 6 on Netflix!
8.) This week, Disney released a one minute teaser containing a look at a number of different upcoming films and series set to debut across their platforms this year! The list includes Only Murders in the Building, which has a number of queer characters, including lead Mabel and her neighbor, Howard. It also included a first look at the upcoming All’s Fair, a legal drama that features queer actors Niecy Nash-Betts and Sarah Paulson.
9.) Netflix announced additional cast members for Vladimir, their upcoming series based on Julia May Jonas’ novel about a woman who becomes obsessed with her new colleague. Queer actor Ellen Robertson will play Sid in the show. In other Netflix casting news, gay actor Karan Soni was added to the cast of the upcoming limited series based on the life of Samuel Bankman-Fried as a series regular.

10.) Vanity Fair published a first look interview with star Michael Chernus and showrunner Patrick Macmanus about the upcoming Peacock show based on the documentary of the same name. In it, they talk about the show’s unique victim-first structure, getting sign-off from the victims’ families, the importance of highlighting the beauty in the lives of Gacy’s victims who were queer, and how systemic homophobia kept police from apprehending Gacy sooner. GLAAD has done consulting work on the show and prepped the team for this interview.

11.) In music news, this week queer artist Cazewell announced a new compilation double LP titles HITS ALL OVER YOUR FACE [The Peace Bisquit Collection], set for release on September 12. In anticipation of the new LP, the artist released a song titled “Daddy” to go along with it. He also remastered and re-released the song “Unzip Me” featuring bisexual artist Peaches.

12.) Bridgerton star Luke Newton is set to star as iconic gay fashion designer Lee Alexander McQueen in an off-Broadway show starting next month. The show will follow McQueen from his early days as a designer through the later stages in his career up until his death in 2010. House of McQueen begins previews on August 19, and officially opens on September 9 at The Mansion at Hudson Yards. Don’t miss it! In other theater news, Joe Locke is set to make his West End debut following the wrap of the Heartstopper movie! The out actor will star as a gay man with a chronic illness in Clarkston, a play from queer writer Samuel D. Hunter about two very different men that meet by chance in a Costco in Clarkston, Washington. The three-hander also co-stars out bisexual actor, Ruaridh Mollica. There are no dates and venues announced for the production yet, but keep your eyes here for more news about Joe Locke and Ruaridh Mollica in Clarkston!

13.) Drag queen extraordinaires Jinkx Monsoon and BenDeLaCreme have announced the 8th iteration of The Jinkx and Dela Holiday Show! Once again, the comedic drag duo will tour around the U.S., heading to 30 cities with the irreverent show. Previews begin on November 12 in Charlotte, NC, and then the tour officially kicks off on November 16 in Atlanta! Don’t miss your chance to get tickets!
