New Yorkers, look up! Today, October 18th, the iconic Empire State Building has been lit up in purple in honor of GLAAD’s Spirit Day tomorrow!
Laverne Cox, an Emmy nominated actress who was the first openly transgender person to appear on the covers of TIME Magazine and British Vogue, among several other major publications, and the winner of countless other accolades for her role in Orange is the New Black was joined by GLAAD Board Members, Peppermint and Samantha Lux, alongside Coty SVP of U.S. Marketing, Kevin Shapiro and Gotham Cheer, for the ceremonial lighting.
The “World’s Most Famous Building” is shining bright purple on the city in partnership with Sally Hansen and GLAAD, reminding New York and beyond to support LGBTQ youth.
The Empire State Building is just one of the many landmarks to take the pledge to stand up against bullying amongst hundreds of celebrities, major TV networks, brands, landmarks, sports leagues, tech leaders, influencers, faith groups, school organizations, and more.
Spirit Day is the world’s largest and most visible LGBTQ anti-bullying campaign, wear purple on Thursday, October 19th to show your support!
