October 3
Heartstopper (Season Three — Netflix)
Summer is coming to a close as Heartstopper returns to the small screen! Based on the key events of the fourth graphic novel by genderfluid and asexual author Alice Oseman, the third season of the GLAAD Media Award-winning series delves into themes of mental health, sex, university, ambitions, and more. While Charlie (Joe Locke) and Nick’s (Kit Connor) relationship deepens as they face their biggest challenges yet, the gang plans social events and parties, start to think about university choices, and learn to lean on those they love when life doesn’t go according to plan. Keep an eye out for Jonathan Bailey’s cameo in this season as Jack Maddox, an Instagram-famous classicist and Charlie’s celebrity crush. Abbott Elementary (Season Four — ABC)
Abbott Elementary is back in session with new class pets, a case of ringworm and a visit from HR! The hit sitcom mockumentary celebrates our school system’s unsung heroes and public servants, focusing on a group of dedicated Philadelphia educators that includes the beloved awkward gay history teacher Jacob Hill. In the new season, Janine returns to Abbott and explores a relationship with Gregory, while Jacob and Melissa embrace their singledom and deepen their friendship as roommates. Ghosts (Season Four — CBS)
Based on the British sitcom of the same name, the supernatural comedy Ghosts continues to follow Samantha and Jay Arondekar, who believe their dreams have come true when they inherit a beautiful country home, only to find that it is falling apart and inhabited by ghosts from different eras of American history. The upcoming season reveals gay ghost Isaac’s (out actor Brandon Scott Jones) fate after being kidnapped by Patience, the “feral Puritan” ghost. What We Do in the Shadows (Season Six — FX)
FX’s beloved queer vampire roommates are returning for one last season! The Emmy-nominated series What We Do in the Shadow documents the nightly exploits of Nandor, Lazlo, Nadja, and Colin Robinson as they navigate the modern world of Staten Island with the help of their human friend Guillermo (queer actor Harvey Guillén). In the sixth and final season, the vampires enter the workforce, visit New Hampshire, and attend a human dinner party—all while trying to find their place and purpose in the world. After briefly becoming a vampire, Guillermo is left questioning his role as a familiar and reevaluates his life. Somebody Somewhere (Season Three — HBO)
The long awaited third and final season of Somebody Somewhere is here! The critically acclaimed dramedy centers on Sam (Bridget Everett), who moves back to her Kansas hometown. Grappling with loss and acceptance, singing is Sam’s saving grace and leads her on a journey to discover herself and a community of outsiders who don’t fit in, but don’t give up. In the upcoming season, the group grows against all odds, including Sam’s best friend Joel (gay actor and comedian Jeff Hiller) and emcee Fred (trans drag king Murray Hill).
