HBO’s new music industry drama The Idol debuts tonight! The six-episode series focuses on Jocelyn (Lily-Rose Depp), an aspiring pop idol who, after having a nervous breakdown that causes her last tour to be canceled, resolves to reclaim her title as the sexiest pop star in America and begins a complex relationship with Tedros (Abel “The Weeknd” Tesfaye), a self-help guru and the head of a contemporary cult. The Idol boasts a star-studded cast, featuring LGBTQ talent Troye Sivan, Dan Levy, Hari Nef, and the final television appearance of the late Anne Heche. The Idol: Tonight at 9pm on HBO.
On Wednesday, It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia returns for a record-extending Sweet 16 season! The Gang is ripping straight from the headlines as they yearn for the past and attempt to survive the year, navigating 2023 with 16 years of baggage and a few figures from their past rearing their heads. In the season, central gay character Mac and Dennis get into inflatable furniture to deal with the economy’s inflation; Dee tries to find a place to crash after being evicted; and Charlie wants to pitch Frank his investment idea. The fourth and final season of Never Have I Ever drops this Thursday! The coming-of-age comedy follows modern first-generation Indian American teenager Devi and her best friends, lesbian student Fabiola (out actress Lee Rodriguez) and Eleanor (Ramona Young). Back at Sherman Oaks for her senior year of high school, Devi has a new distraction by the name of Ethan (Michael Cimino), who arrives on the heels of Paxton’s departure to college, and a mystery couple ties the knot. On Friday, Human Resources returns to Netflix! The Big Mouth spinoff pulls back the curtain on the daily lives of the creatures that help humans journey through every aspect of life— from puberty to parenthood to the twilight years. The series features a bevy of LGBTQ characters and an impressive list of queer voice talent, including Miley Cyrus, Niecy Nash-Betts, Brandon Kyle Goodman, Cole Escola, and more! The sophomore season of Cruel Summer premieres with two episodes this Friday on Freeform! Set in an idyllic waterfront town in the Pacific Northwest, the next chapter of Cruel Summer approaches the story from three different timelines. The season twists and turns as it tracks the early friendship between Megan, Isabella, and Luke, the love triangle that blossomed, and the mystery that would impact all of their lives going forward. Apple TV+’s new anthology series The Crowded Room debuts on Friday with three episodes! The show follows Danny Sullivan (Tom Holland), a man who is arrested following his involvement in a shooting in New York City in 1979. A captivating thriller told through a series of interviews, Danny’s life story unfolds, revealing elements of the mysterious past that shaped him, and the twists and turns that will lead him to a life-altering revelation. Out actress Sasha Lane plays Ariana, Sullivan’s closest friend and ally, who together seek revenge for the pains of their past. The Crowded Room: Fridays on Apple TV+.
