The seventh and final episode of STARZ‘s limited series Mary & George airs on May 17 and the period drama find the scheming mother-son duo of George (Nicholas Galitzine) and Mary (Julianne Moore) has evolved into a feud. Based on the exclusive clip given to GLAAD, we are long gone from the days of dysfunctional, yet loving mother-son adoration that we saw in the first episode. He’s no longer a mama’s boy and he’s not past putting his Mary in her place.
Mary & George is based on the true story of Mary Villiers and how she molded her son George into a beautiful and charismatic man to seduce King James I (Tony Curran) and become his all-powerful lover. As a result, the mother and son rose from humble beginnings to become the richest, most titled and influential players the English court had ever seen, and the King’s most trusted advisors. And with England’s place on the world stage under threat from outside forces and rioters taking to the streets to denounce the King, the stakes could not have been higher.
This week’s episode is titled “War” and finds George and Charles embarking on a monumental and historical trip to Spain, while Mary attempts one last throw of the dice to ensure absolute power.
The series is written by and created by D.C. Moore (Killing Eve, Temple), inspired by Benjamin Woolley’s nonfiction book “The King’s Assassin”. The ensemble cast also includes Nicola Walker, Niamh Algar, Trine Dyrholm, Sean Gilder, Adrian Rawlins, Mark O’Halloran, Laurie Davidson, Samuel Blenkin, Jacob McCarthy, Tom Victor, Alice Grant, Amelia Gething, Mirren Mack, Rina Mahoney, and Simon Russell Beale.
