The nominations for the 2022 MTV VMAs have been announced and Lil Nas X leads the pack alongside Kendrick Lamar with seven nominations each. In addition Dove Cameron received a Best New Artist nomination, while Elton John’s duet with Dua Lipa, “Cold Heart (PNAU Remix)” nabbed two nominations for Song of the Year and Best Collaboration.
Queen and GLAAD honoree Madonna was nominated for Best Longform Video for “Madame X”. Madge, who is the most awarded artist in MTV VMA history, adds another accomplishment to her resume as this is her 69th nomination. She becomes the only artist to receive nominations in each of the VMAs’ five decades. She is nominated in the category alongside other GLAAD honorees Kacey Musgraves and Taylor Swift, who were nominated for “star-crossed” and “All Too Well”, respectively.
After being snubbed by the BET Awards, Lil Nas X is set to be celebrated at the MTV VMAs with “Industry Baby”, his collaboration with Jack Harlow. The song received nods for Video of the Year,Best Collaboration, Best Direction, Best Art Direction,Best Visual Effects, and Best Choreography. The trailblazing performer is also up for Artist of the Year going up against Harry Styles, Lizzo, Bad Bunny, Drake, Ed Sheeran, and his buddy Jack Harlow.
In addition to Lil Nas X and Jack Harlow’s “Industry Baby”, the other artists vying for the top prize of Video of the Year at the MTV VMAs are Doja Cat for “Woman”; Drake ft. Future & Young Thug for “Way 2 Sexy”; Ed Sheeran for “Shivers”; Harry Styles for “As It Was“; Olivia Rodrigo for “brutal” and Taylor Swift for “All Too Well”.
Surprisingly, “Industry Baby” isn’t on the nomination list for another coveted prize: Song of the Year. Elton John & Dua Lipa’s “Cold Heart (PNAU Remix)” is going up against Adele’s “Easy On Me”; Billie Eilish’s– “Happier Than Ever”; Doja Cat’s “Woman”; Lizzo’s “About Damn Time” and The Kid LAROI & Justin Bieber’s “STAY”.
In the Best New Artist category Dove Cameron is nominated alongside Baby Keem, GAYLE, Latto,Måneskin and SEVENTEEN.
The MTV VMAs are set to take place at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey on August 28 at 8pm ET/PT.
