Angelenos, a feast awaits your eyes and ears—the LA Art Show
The LA Art show is on every art lover’s calendar, and this year promises generous queer representation. Now through Feb. 9 in downtown LA, the massive art show includes the exhibit “MOLAA Pride” from The Museum of Latin American Art. According to organizers, Argentinian artists Leo Chiachio and Daniel Giannone created a 112 ft. long textile installation in collaboration with more than 3,000 members of the Long Beach and Los Angeles communities, who were invited to include personal messages on the fabric, and which was first shared at last year’s Long Beach Pride. Also look out for “Diversity Walks And Talks,” an interactive space in which attendees can “strut their stuff down a runway and showcase what makes them unique.” According to organizers, participants will be pre-selected and interviewed about what diversity means to them, and the interviews shown as part of the performance. La Neomudejar Museum from Spain presents “Dactiloscopia Rosa: Video Art and Queer Constructions” which documents the sexual liberation of the LGBTQ community through the 70s, 80s, and 90s under the Franco dictatorship. Also, look out for TRANSCENDIENTS which honors the “heroes at borders,” who “advocate and fight for those who face discrimination, prejudice and inequity at borders both physical and conceptual” and DIVERSEartLA celebrating LA’s cultural diversity and curated by Marisa Caichiolo.

LGBTQ and Latinx film “José” opens in various cities
We’re feeling inspired by the number of good LGBTQ and Latinx or Spanish-Language films released recently, including the critically-lauded film “José,” from Guatemala, which opens this week in Los Angeles. A poignant story about love and family responsibility, “José” won the Queer Lion at the Venice Film Festival. It plays in Los Angeles starting Feb. 7, at Laemmle’s Royal, and q&a sessions with the director are scheduled for some Friday and Saturday screenings. For more on “José” check out GLAAD’s recent blog post. The film also opens in various cities nationally in the next two weeks.
