Spanish-language entertainment plays a big role in the lives of Latinx LGBTQ people. Dramas and comedies played out in the language we grew up hearing and still speak, the language of our loved ones, make an impact on us and our families. Even folks who speak mostly English in their daily lives, often consume Spanish-language media. It’s also big business—some of the most watched series and films around the world are in Spanish.

We love it, but does it love us? On series after series, novela after novela and film after film, transgender and bisexual characters are nearly nonexistent. Same-sex couples and lesbian or gay people inch toward the spotlight but, still way too often remain on the sidelines, while the real stars of the show, the heterosexual and cisgender characters, take center stage.

In order to help and inspire creators to make shows and films that are LGBTQ inclusive, GLAAD created a new resource, A Guide For  LGBTQ Inclusion In Entertainment: How to Reach Bigger, Diverse Audiences in the U.S., Latin America and Spain.

This 11-page guide aims to help writers, producers and network and studio leaders find a way forward toward creating stories that are funny or dramatic, complex and compelling, totally binge-worthy and also LGBTQ inclusive.
