During the 32nd Annual GLAAD Media Awards on Thursday, Katy Perry presented the award for Outstanding Music Artist to Sam Smith.

In her introduction, Katy Perry said: “I believe music helped us get through this very difficult time when not much else did…I want to salute all these incredible artists who gave us moments of hope, happiness, resilience, and even just plain old escapism.”
In their acceptance speech, Sam Smith said: “This has been such a tough year for everyone…For me, throughout this year, music has remained this constant force of unity and for people. And looking at this category tonight, and of all these albums…you know, these are the albums that have gotten me through this year, and got us all through this year.”
During the virtual ceremony, Disclosure also took home the award for Outstanding Documentary, Schitt’s Creek received the award for Outstanding Comedy Series for a second year in a row, Star Trek: Discovery won for Outstanding Drama Series, Happiest Season took home the award for Outstanding Film – Wide Release, The Boys in the Band received the award for Outstanding Film – Limited Release, We’re Here won for Outstanding Reality Program, The Not-Too-Late Show with Elmo took home the award for Outstanding Children’s Programming, and “Lilly Responds to Comments About Her Sexuality,” a segment of Lilly Singh’s late-night talk show A Little Late With Little Singh, won for for Outstanding Variety or Talk Show Episode.
