Out actor, singer and director Juan Pablo Di Pace has released his first single in Spanish “Te Sentí” (English translation “I Felt You”) and an accompanying music video which he calls “a love letter to his roots.”
Anthony Ramos, GLAAD’s Head of Talent, spoke with Di Pace about the single and music video and its overall progression into a flamenco/pop collaboration. Di Pace also mentions how being in quarantine has made him appreciate music even more, and reveals to Ramos what Latin singing star he would love to work with in the future.
In the interview, Di Pace also speaks about how meaningful it was for him to see his film, the LGBTQ holiday film “Dashing in December” nominated for a 2021 GLAAD Media Award for Outstanding TV Movie.
“Te Senti” was written by Di Pace and Latin Grammy winner Paulina Aguirre. Once the song was finished, Di Pace visited his parents in Madrid, and after a conversation with Flamenco musician Tito Losada and his sons (who also appear in the music video), the song evolved from a pop ballad into a dynamic fusion between authentic flamenco and adult contemporary sound.
The music video depicts a love story between two men and a woman, set against a romantic flamenco backdrop. The video was co-directed by Di Pace and Manolo Pavón and stars flamenco dancers Pablo Fraile and Sara Rosado.
The song is from Di Pace’s forthcoming EP “Vascular” which will be available later this year. He told Ramos that he intends to follow in Beyonce’s “Lemonade” footsteps and create a special music video for each song.
“Te Sentí” is available to stream and download now.
