Part of GLAAD and Ground Media’s Here We Are campaign, 19-year-old Nadya headed down on Skid Row to The Westside Theatre’s production of Little Shop of Horrors!
While in New York for the very first time attending the GLAAD Media Awards, Nadya, an artist and college student studying performing arts and fashion design who is passionate about creative expression, was gifted the opportunity to meet her idol! As a fellow singer, musical theater lover, and trans woman, Nadya has long looked up to the one and only Jinkx Monsoon.
Jinkx, who got her start on Ru Paul’s Drag Race, recently finished up her run as Aubrey in this groundbreaking production of Little Shop of Horrors. Fortunately, Nadya and her father made it in time to catch Jinkx at one of her last performances in the show!
This experience was especially meaningful, as Nadya was in her high school’s production of Little Shop of Horrors.
Nadya’s story, along with Gio’s and Ashton’s, are part of the Here We Are campaign to increase acceptance of and support for transgender people at a time when the overwhelming majority of Americans say they’ve never met a trans person.
