Today, former American Idol season 7 star David Hernandez releases his most personal single to date, “feel it all”. The raw and soulful anthem dives deep into recovery, sobriety, and redemption, stories close to Hernandez’s heart and to so many in the LGBTQ community.
“To be honest, it was never my intention to share it,” Hernandez tells GLAAD. “I quite literally wrote it for my own therapy… but if just writing it and singing it helped me, I started to think about what the message could do for other people. That little kid out there with no resources matters. That person who doesn’t see themselves in their community might see themselves in this video and message, and that just might change their lives.”
The moving video, co-directed by Hernandez and Johny De, features a real recovery circle with LGBTQ and recovery community members. “I wanted people’s raw emotion and connectivity to this song to come across and it did,” Hernandez shares.
For him, visibility is key: “Recovery isn’t just about putting down the drink or the drug. It’s about reclaiming your voice, your worth, your story. For queer folks, that journey is layered… representation saves lives.”
With “feel it all”, Hernandez offers a vulnerable and empowering message: healing is possible, truth is powerful, and no one has to feel alone.
