The 81st Golden Globe Awards took place on January 7 and is the official ceremony to kick off awards season. Among the winners were Lily Gladstone who continues her awards season glow up, earning Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Motion Picture – Drama for her role in Killers of the Flower Moon. On the TV side, The Bear‘s Ayo Edebiri won a Golden Globe for Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Television Series – Musical or Comedy.
Billie Eilish and Finneas O’Connell scored a trophy for Barbie‘s “What Was I Made For?” in the category of Best Original Song – Motion Picture. In addition, Greta Gerwig’s Barbie which also stars Kate MicKinnon, Hari Nef, Ncuti Gatwa, Scott Evans, and Alexandra Shipp.
This year’s Golden Globes ceremony was the first under Dick Clark Productions and Eldridge. The popular awards ceremony was run by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, which has since disbanded after the group was faced with a boatload of controversies.
Although the LGBTQ winners for this year’s ceremony was minimal, the Golden Globes had plenty of queer-fronted nominations including Colman Domingo for his role in Rustin; Andrew Scott for All of Us Strangers; Jodie Foster for her performance in Nyad; Bella Ramsey for The Last of Us; Matt Bomer for his role Fellow Travelers; and Wanda Sykes for her special Wanda Sykes: I’m an Entertainer.
