Alex Schmider, Emmy®, Peabody, and Critics Choice Award-nominated film producer, has been honored on the 2025 OUT 100 under the Educator category. As GLAAD’s Senior Director of Entertainment, he plays a pivotal role in shaping authentic LGBTQ narratives across media and technology.
Reflecting on his own journey, Alex recalls the profound impact of the lack of visibility. “I didn’t see trans people growing up and getting older in the media, let alone living full and fulfilling lives,” he says. “The absence of this representation left me without much ability to imagine or envision a future for myself, which TV and film can help illuminate for us when we see ourselves reflected.”
In his role at GLAAD, Alex works closely with studios, networks, and marketing teams to ensure LGBTQ stories are portrayed with authenticity, depth, and commercial viability. Beyond entertainment, he partners with technology platforms, including dating apps, to develop features that better serve LGBTQ people, expanding visibility and inclusion in every corner of culture.
“Every day, I get to do this work, telling stories where LGBTQ+ people are able to more expansively see themselves and the possibilities for their lives. [It] is how I give forward,” Schmider says. “We each deserve to be the hero in our own story, and we also have the opportunity to help others see themselves as the heroes in theirs.”
The 2025 OUT 100 also celebrates outstanding leaders like Precious Brady-Davis, Sarah McBride, and River Gallo, among others, along with GLAAD Board member Frankie Grande, with Niecy Nash-Betts honored as OUT100 Icon of the Year.
