The GLAAD Wrap: Trailers for ‘The L Word: Generation Q,’ ‘Gossip Girl,’ ‘We the People;’ new music from Hayley Kiyoko, Rotsam, Michaela Jaé, and more!

Every week, The GLAAD Wrap brings you LGBTQ-related entertainment news highlights, fresh stuff to watch out for, and fun diversions to help you kick off the weekend.

1) Lionsgate has acquired the rights to novel Guncle by out author Steven Rowley. The book follows a gay former TV star who takes in his niece and nephew to live in his Palm Springs home after their mother dies suddenly. The film will be produced by Burr! Studios. In more film news, out actor Zachary Quinto has been announced to star in He Went That Way, a crime thriller based on the real encounter of a celebrity animal trainer (Quinto) with an infamous serial killer (Jacob Eldori). Out filmmaker Paul Downs Colaizzo will be directing upcoming movie Bring Me Back for Legendary. Plot details are unknown, but the film has been said to be an epic love story.

2) The first trailer has been released for the second season of The L Word: Generation Q. Season two continues to follow the antics of a group of queer friends living in Los Angeles. Watch the trailer below and catch the season premiere on August 6 on Showtime. Nickelodeon’s Danger Force has cast 13-year-old Sasha A. Cohen, a trans actor, in an upcoming trans role on the show. Michael D. Cohen, a star of Danger Force who disclosed being trans himself last year, co-wrote and directed the episode in which Sasha will star, and has been working on getting more trans and non-binary young actors into the business.

3) The first teaser has been released for upcoming HBO Max Gossip Girl reboot, which includes actress Zion Moreno, who is trans, in the ensemble. Watch the trailer below and catch the premiere of Gossip Girl on July 8 on HBO Max. Drag queens Peppermint, Crystal, and Barbada have been tapped to lead a new drag coemption show Call Me Mother. The show will divide contestants into three houses lead by the three queens to compete for the top prize of $50,000. Call Me Mother premieres this fall on Out TV in Canada and Out TV’s Apple channel in the U.S.

4) A trailer has been released for We the People from out creator Chris Nee and the Obamas’ Higher Ground productions. The show uses music and animation to teach lessons about the power of the people. LGBTQ musicians included in the show include Janelle Monae, Brandi Carlile and Adam Lambert. Watch the trailer below and catch the show on Netflix July 4.

5) Lesbian singer Hayley Kiyoko released a new single “Chance,” with an accompanying music video on Tuesday. The video is directed by Kiyoko herself and she stars alongside Alexandra Shipp as her love interest. 6) Out singer Willow released a music video for her pop punk single “Transparent Soul,” featuring Travis Barker. Watch the music video below and stream the song here. Michaela Jaé (Mj) Rodriguez released her debut single “Something to Say” today. The Pose star released the song to celebrate love and embrace one another’s differences. Listen here.

7) Out musician and producer Rotsam released his new album Changephobia today. Stream the album here. Non-binary drag queen and Drag Race UK finalist Bimini released a new single and video “God Save This Queen” on Thursday. Listen to the track here and watch the video below.  

8) Non-binary singer Kat Cunning has released a new track “Boys,” a love song to a transmasculine person they fell for. Listen to the track here. Out singer Jake Wesley Rogers has released a new single and music video “Momentary.” Listen to the song here and watch the music video below.

9) Jodie Foster will be honored with the honorary Pam d’Or at the Cannes film festival this year. The award recognizes someone with enduring career achievement as an artist. In more festival news, Tribeca Film Festival has announced that several comedy specials will film at the festival this month in partnership with Comedy Dynamics. One of the specials will be from drag queen and comedian Miz Cracker.

10) The nominations have been announced for the thirds annual Critics Choice Real TV Awards, honoring the best in nonfiction, unscripted, and reality TV. LGBTQ-inclusive nominees include five for RuPaul’s Drag Race, three for Queer Eye, as well as nominations for Legendary, Deaf U, RuPaul’s Drag Race: Untucked, Haute Dog, Stylish with Jenna Lyons, and My Love: Six Stories of True Love.
