Every week, The GLAAD Wrap brings you LGBTQ-related entertainment news highlights, fresh stuff to watch out for, and fun diversions to help you kick off the weekend.
1) Out director Nahnatchka Khan will adapt upcoming YA novel I’ll Be the One into a film for HBO Max. The movie follows Skye Shin, a bisexual Korean-American girl who competes to be the next big K-pop star. In more film news, out actor and filmmaker Jodie Foster is set to direct a new film about the theft of the Mona Lisa in 1911, based on the book The Day they Stole the Mona Lisa. The film is funded by the Los Angeles Media Fund.
2) After its debut at Sundance, the film I Carry You With Me (Te Llevo Conmigo) has been picked up for distribution by Sony Pictures Classics. Based a true story, the film is a romance between two men who immigrate to the United States. Also at Sundance is out filmmaker Alan Ball’s Sundance film Uncle Frank, which has been acquired by Amazon. The film stars Paul Bettany as Frank, who takes his niece to his father’s funeral. He is also accompanied by his lover, Walid, and deals with the complexity of his relationship to his father after he came out as gay.
3) GLAAD Media Award-nominated graphic novel Memetic by out writer James Tynion IV will be adapted into a feature film for Lionsgate. The film follows queer character Aaron and others at a college campus where a meme causes an outbreak and goes viral.

4) The first trailer has been released for The Thing About Harry, the new Freeform holiday romcom. The Valentines Day movie follows Sam (out actor Jake Borelli), as he embarks on a road trip with his former high school nemesis Harry (Niko Terho). The film will air on Freeform on February 15. 5) Out singer Kesha released her new album High Road today, to rave reviews. Stream the album here listen to her most recent single “Tonight” with out singer Wrabel below!
6) Singer and Drag Race royalty Trixie Mattel released a new single last Friday, “Malibu.” The single is off of her upcoming album Barbara, which is available to preorder here. Watch the lyric video for “Malibu” below. Mattel also released a portion of her live show on YouTube, featuring multiple songs. Watch it here.
7) Out singer and recent Grammy winner Lil Nas X released a new remix for his song “Rodeo” featuring rapper Nas. Listen to the two Nas’remix here. Out singer Tove Lo released a new music video for her songs “Are U gonna tell her.” Watch the video here.
8) Graphic novel A Boxer is currently funding for publication. The book tells the story of Mike Shepherd, a British fighter trying to succeed in the hyper-masculine world of boxing, whilst struggling to manage his sexual identity. It’s narrated by Mike’s partner and medical consultant, Jude who faces his own challenges as an openly gay man in the sport. Click here to learn more and contribute to the project.
