Every week, The GLAAD Wrap brings you LGBTQ-related entertainment news highlights, fresh stuff to watch out for, and fun diversions to help you kick off the weekend.
1.) Scott McCall and his pack returned this week in Teen Wolf: The Movie, now streaming on Paramount+! In this revival of the popular 2011 MTV show of the same name, a new evil has appeared in Beacon Hills, calling all the monsters imaginable back to the small town. In order to face down the biggest threat yet, Scott McCall, still an alpha, must gather old friends and recruit new allies in order to save his town. The film stars queer actor Tyler Posey as McCall, and gay actor Colton Haynes returns as Jackson. Don’t miss Teen Wolf: The Movie, streaming now!
2.) Searchlight Pictures has acquired Sundance picture Theater Camp in an 8 million dollar deal that guarantees theatrical distribution. The film follows a summer theater camp as its leader falls into a coma, and her clueless son is forced to run things. In order to keep the camp running, Amos (Ben Platt), Rebecca-Diane (Molly Gordon), and their team of counselors must work together to produce a show by opening night. The movie co-stars gay actor Ben Platt, and also features his husband, Noah Galvin. Keep an eye out for Theater Camp in the future! In other film news, out actress Niecy Nash-Betts has been added to the cast of Ava DuVernay’s Caste. The film is inspired by Isabel Wilkerson’s Caste: The Origins of Our Discontents, and disects the hierarchies that formed the United States.

3.) The trailer for Starz reboot of cult comedy series Party Down dropped this week! This season will take place ten years after the events of the original show, and most of the catering team have moved on. After a surprise reunion however, the team is back dealing with weird guests and crazy parties all over Los Angeles. The show features out comedian and actor Jane Lynch, reprising her original role. Catch the premiere of Party Down on Starz on February 24.
4.) Love is in the air, and sex is on the street in the new trailer for Harley Quinn: A Very Problematic Valentine’s Day Special. The special follows queer couple Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy as an intense bout of love-making casts a spell over the city of Gotham, making its citizens insatiably lustful. Elsewhere, the Riddler has a ring up his sleeve for his boyfriend, the Clock King. Don’t miss the special when it airs on HBO Max on February 9!
5.) Suit up, because Barney Stinson is back on Hulu’s spin-off How I Met Your Father, and you are not going to want to miss it. While the role that Barney will play in the series is being kept under wraps, it seems that it will be a pivotal one given his appearance in the season two premiere. Gay actor Neil Patrick Harris plays Barney Stinson, although he was a womanizer on the original series. Catch How I Met Your Father now streaming on Hulu.
6.) Queer non-binary musician Sam Smith’s new album Gloria is out now! This is their fourth studio album, and features the hit song “Unholy,” featuring trans pop-star Kim Petras. Queer artist Jess Kallen released new single “The Knife,” vivi rincon released her new single “overflow,” and SAIAH released their new single “ihateyouandyouhatemetoo.” Fitz and the Tantrums tour kicked off last Saturday; get your tickets now! Additionally, out alt-pop artist a kid named rufus’ single “eighteen ft. Cole Bauer” is out today!
7.) Queer actor Dyllón Burnside has been tapped to lead London play Black Superhero, from gay playwright and actor Danny Lee Wynter. Burnside will play a Black queer movie star named King in the play. Keep your eyes peeled for more news about Black Superhero in the future.
8.) The nominations for the 95th annual Academy Awards (the Oscars) were announced this week! Queer inclusive film Everything Everywhere All at Once led the pack with 11 nominations, including a look for the top prize of “Best Picture.” Tár also received a look for “Best Picture,” bagging 6 nominations total. All the Beauty and the Bloodshed, which tracks the life and work of photographer and activist Nan Goldin, was nominated for “Best Documentary Feature Film.” Queer artists Lady Gaga and Mitski both got looks for “Best Original Song,” for Top Gun: Maverick and Everything Everywhere All at Once respectively. 9.) The Writer’s Guild of America released their 2023 nominees, including a number of queer-inclusive films, shows, and performers. Queer-inclusive films Everything Everywhere All at Once and Tár continue to succeed this awards season, both receiving looks for “Original Screenplay.” Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, and Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery received nods for “Adapted Screenplay.” In television, queer-inclusive shows Better Call Saul and Yellowjackets were nominated for “Drama Series,” and Abbott Elementary, Barry, Hacks, and Only Murders in the Building were nominated for “Comedy Series” Abbott Elementary and Bad Sisters got looks for “New Series,” and The White Lotus was nominated for “Limited Series.” To see all the nominees, check out the list here!

10.) The first round of Grammy performers were announced this week, and they incldue queer non-binary performer Sam Smith, as will queer icon Brandi Carlile and trans pop-star Kim Petras.
