The GLAAD Wrap: ‘Bros’ out in theaters today, trailers for ‘Knock at the Cabin’ and ‘Spoiler Alert,’ Hallmark announces first leading queer couple, new music from Lucy Dacus, Walt Disco, and more!

Every week, The GLAAD Wrap brings you LGBTQ-related entertainment news highlights, fresh stuff to watch out for, and fun diversions to help you kick off the weekend.

1.) Billy Eichner’s new romantic comedy Bros hits theaters today, marking the first ever wide theatrical release from a major studio that features an entirely queer main cast. The film follows Bobby Liedner, played by gay actor, comedian, and writer Billy Eichner and his unlikely relationship with handsome lawyer Aaron, played by out actor Luke McFarlane. The list of queer performers in this film is too long to list (because it’s pretty much all of them), so you’ll have to go see all them in all their good gay glory yourself! 2.) The first trailer for M. Night Shymalan’s upcoming film Knock at the Cabin has been released, giving us a first look at the upcoming horror mystery film. The story follows a gay couple, Andrew and Eric, and their daughter Wen as they are taken hostage by four strangers who force the family to make an impossible choice in order to prevent the apocalypse. Out actors Jonathan Groff and Ben Aldridge will star as Andrew and Eric in the adaptation of Paul G. Tremblay’s The Cabin at the Edge of the World. This screenplay was formerly featured on the  GLAAD list of unproduced LGBT-inclusive scripts, and now it has fruition with M. Night Shyamalan now signed on. 3.) Hallmark has announced its new slate of films for the 2022 holiday season, including their first leading queer couple in The Holiday Sitter. The story will follow the workaholic Sam, who is babysitting his niece and nephew around the holidays, and his unexpected romance with Jason, the next door neighbor who lends a hand in the task. Out actor and television host Jonathan Bennett and George Krissa will star in the film, which is set to be released December 11 on the Hallmark channel. It’s safe to say this is one movie that will sleigh the holiday season! In other film news, In other Netflix news, a new clip from Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery, which features out performer and musician Janelle Monae, was released, as well; watch the Glass Onion exclusive below! 

4.) The trailer for Spoiler Alert has been released, giving us a closer look at the adaptation of out entertainment journalist Michael Ausiello’s memoir Spoiler Alert: The Hero Dies. The story follows Michael Ausiello (gay actor Jim Parsons) and a span of his relationship with out photographer Kit Cowan (gay actor Ben Aldridge), who was diagnosed with and passed away from terminal cancer. The film also features out performers Jeffery Self and Antoni Porowski. Check out the trailer below, and watch the heartwarming story in theaters on December 16! In more film news, there was a first look at pansexual actress Bella Thorne in the upcoming thriller Rumble Through the Dark.

5.) The first episode of the queer-horror documentary Queer for Fear: The History of Queer Horror is now available on Shudder. Guests include out Orange is the New Black star Lea DeLaria, Jennifer’s Body director Karyn Kusama, Chucky franchise star Jennifer Tilly, and many, many more. The four episode series dissects the history of LGBTQ+ horror and the relationship between queer audiences and horror films. If you’re looking for a queer, educational, and slightly creepy program to start off spooky season, look no further. 6.) Good news, it seems like queer people do survive the apocalypse! A full length teaser for the upcoming The Last of Us television adaptation has been released, giving the first look at Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey’s performances as the leading Joel and Ellie. The beloved video game franchise has been queer for years; Ellie came out in the “Left Behind” DLC in 2014, and the second installment, The Last of Us 2, expanded on her romantic relationships. Out Emmy Award-winning actor Murray Bartlett and Nick Offerman will play Frank and Bill respectively, a partnered queer duo from the franchise. Watch the trailer below! 

7.) The official trailer for season two of Peacock’s teen thriller One of Us Is Lying came out on this week, leaving us in suspense about the fates of our favorite Bayview High students. The cast includes gay athlete Cooper (Chibuikem Uche), gay underwear model Kris (Karim Diane), and queer student Janae (Jessica McLeod). Season two is set moments after the end of season one, and the group has another secret to keep, which may not be such an easy task. Tune into the premiere on October 20 and watch the trailer below! The trailer for Grey’s Anatomy’s nineteenth season has been released, giving a glimpse at the future for Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) and the Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital staff. This season introduces a brand new slate of first-year surgical residents and interns, including Jules Millin (bisexual actress Adelaide Kane) and Mika Yasuda (queer actress Midori Francis). 8.)  Nickelodeon has released a sneek peek of their upcoming animated Monster High television series. The show stars a bevy of out voice actors, including Courtney Lin as Draculaura, transmasculine non-binary performer iris menas as Frankie Stein, queer actress Kausar Mohammed as Cleo De Nile, and non-binary performer Valeria Rodriguez as Lagoona Blue. See the clip from the show, premiering October 28th on Nickelodeon, below! The third and final season of Dead to Me finally has a premiere date set for November 17, just two and a half years after the previous season aired. The dark comedy, created by out comedian Liz Feldman, follows two women as they grapple with greif, loss, and forgiveness, including bisexual character Judy (Linda Cardellini). In other Netflix news, a clip was released from Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story, which will include out actress Golda Roshuevel reprising her role as Queen Charlotte.

9.) Ryan Murphy’s ever-queer American Horror Story recieved a premiere date, with two episodes dropping every following Wednesday until the season ends. While plot information remains under wraps, the cast list is almost entirely queer, featuring out performers Joe Mantello, Zachary Quinto, Russell Tovey, Charlie Carver, Sandra Bernhard, Isaac Cole Powell, and Denis O’Hare. Catch the new season streaming on Hulu October 19!

10.) There is a bevy of casting news and first looks announcements this week, many of which feature out queer performers. There is a first look image of out actressAubrey Plaza in the second season of HBO Max’s The White Lotus. Non-binary actor Damian Terriquez, Canada’s Drag Race season one winner Priyanka, and RuPaul’s Drag Race All-Stars season four winner Monet X Change have all been cast in Netflix’s Glamorous, a Miss Benny and Kim Cattrall fronted project following a queer gender non-conforming person as they start work under a legendary makeup executive. Netflix continues with queer casting in the Avatar: the Last Airbender, announcing roles for gay actors George Takei and James Sie. Queer actress Alicia Braga was cast in Dark Matter, and lesbian actress Fiona Shaw was cast in True Detective, Finally, a new FX untitled comedy, written by non-binary comedian Lauren Ludwig, has announced the starring cast members, including non-binary performer Sabrina Wu and out actress Addie Weyrich. 

11.) In music news, Lucy Dacus released two covers, “Home Again” and “It’s Too Late,” from Carole King’s 1971 masterpiece Tapestry on streaming services. The songs were previously only available on a 7” vinyl; watch the official audio video below! Glasgow’s queer post-punk sextet Walt Disco released their thundering, climactic rendition of Dusty Springfield’s “You Don’t Have To Say You Love Me”. In more music news, indie pop singer MARIS’ debut single “Heavenly Bodies” has been released, Blane Muise AKA Shygirl’s debut album Nymph came out today, and activist and artist Madame Gandhi has released a new single titled “Set Me Free.” Out icon Elton John and Britney Spears also released their video for “Hold Me Closer,” and while it doesn’t feature either star, it does feature emotional dance performs set in the beautiful Mexico City. It’s a great day to listen to some new queer music!
