The GLAAD Wrap: ‘Mama’s Boy’ and ‘My Policeman’ out now, trailers for ‘The Sex Lives of College Girls’ and ‘Young Royals’ sophmore seasons, new music by girl in red, Plasmic, and more!

Every week, The GLAAD Wrap brings you LGBTQ-related entertainment news highlights, fresh stuff to watch out for, and fun diversions to help you kick off the weekend.

1.) My Policeman hits theaters today! The film chronicles the forbidden love triangle between policeman Tom (Harry Styles and Linus Roache), teacher Marion (non-binary actor Emma Corrin and Gina McKee), and museum cuator Patrick (out actors David Dawson and Rupert Everett), as they embark on an emotional journey in 1950’s Britain— a time when homosexuality was illegal in the UK. 2.) Gay Oscar-winning Milk screenwriter Dustin Lance Black’s new documentary Mama’s Boy is available now on HBO Max! Adapted from his 2019 memoir Mama’s Boy: A Story From Our Americas, the film explores Black’s close relationship with his conservative Mormon mother, who inspired his activism, and features interviews from his extended family, husband, Olympic gold medalist Tom Daley, and more. 3.) Amazon has unveiled the trailer for its forthcoming comedy The People We Hate at the Wedding, starring out Tony Award-winner Ben Platt. Based the novel of the same name by gay author Grant Grinder, the raunchy film centers dysfunctinal American siblings Alice (Kristen Bell) and Paul (Platt) and their mother as they attend the British wedding of their estranged half-sister Eloise. Paul is also featured with his boyfriend in the trailer. Watch it below and catch The People We Hate at the Wedding streaming November 18!

4.) Out multi-Emmy winner Dan Levy is hitting the directors chair with his feature directorial debut Good Grief, including out actor Arnaud Valois among the ensemble! The bittersweet pic follows Marc Dreyfus, who chooses to distract himself from the death of his mother with a comfortable marriage. When his husband also dies unexpectedly, Marc is forced to face his demons, sending him and his two closest friends on a Parisian weekend of self discovery. In other casting news, out Bodies Bodies Bodies star Myha’la Herrold has been set to appear in Craig Gillespie’s upcoming pic Dumb Money, joining previously announced out actress Shailene Woodley. The film centers on the January 2021 “short squeeze” movement surrounding GameStop, where amateur investors and internet denizens banded together to increase the stock values of the retail chain, changing Wall Street forever. Herrold plays a college student who dives into the stock market in the height of the Covid-19 pandemic, eventually biting off more than she can chew. 

5.) Director Rian Johnson has confirmed that Knives Out detective Beniot Blanc (Daniel Craig) is “obviously” queer and has a partner in the highly anticipated sequel. The film, also starring out actress and singer Janelle Monáe, follows Blanc as he travels to Greece to delve into a mystery involving a new cast of colorful suspects. Watch Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery in select theaters November 23 to 29 before its Netflix release December 23! 

6.) Black Public Media has released the second episode of their documentary short film series I Am Who I Say I Am, capturing stories of gender affirmation through a Black lens. Check out episode one “How to Learn Someone’s Pronouns” and episode two “Discussing Gender Diversity with Family” today, and watch episode three “Why Your Patient’s Pronouns are Important” available on all BPM socials on November 3; check out the trailer below!

7.) ‘Sapphic chaos’ returns to the screen with the official trailer for The L Word: Generation Q season three, featuring out guest stars Margaret Cho, FLETCHER, and Kehlani! The season picks up right where it left off, following the intermingled lives of friends and lovers Bette Porter (Jennifer Beals), Tina Kennard (Laurel Holloman), Alice Pieszecki (out actress Leisha Hailey), Shane McCutcheon (out actress Katherine Moennig), Dani Nùñez (out actress Arienne Mandi), Micah Lee (out trans actor Leo Sheng), Finley (out actress Jacqueline Toboni), Sophie Suarez (Rosanny Zayas), Gigi Ghorbani (Sepideh Moafi), and Angie Porter-Kennard (Jordan Hull) as they experience love, heartbreak, sex, setbacks and success in Los Angeles. 8.) Welcome back to Essex College! HBO Max has released the trailer for The Sex Lives of College Girls season two, which follows the lives and affairs of four college suitmates, including lesbian legacy student Leighton (queer actress Reneé Rapp). As a new trimester begins, the series continues to chronicle Leighton’s coming out journey while she gains confidence alongside her unlikely group of friends. The Sex Lives of College Girls returns November 17 with the first two episodes, followed by two new episodes weekly leading up to the season finale on December 15. Watch the trailer below!

9.) A new school year also kicks off in Sweden; Netflix has shared the official trailer for the sophomore season of Young Royals ahead of its November 1 release! The Swedish coming-of-age series follows Simon Eriksson (Omar Rudberg) and Prince Wilhelm’s (Edvin Ryding) budding relationship at Hillerska while juggling newfound royal duties; check out the trailer below. Another queer high school comedy drama, Heartbreak High, has been renewed for a second season by Netflix! Set at Hartley High, the rebooted Australian series follows a diverse group of teens, including queer and non-binary student Darren Rivers (non-binary actor James Majoos), lesbian and autistic student Quinni Gallagher-Jones (neurodivergent advocate and Tik Tok star Chloe Hayden), asexual student Douglas “Ca$h” Piggott (actor Will McDonald), and many more. 10.) Hulu has dropped a new trailer for their upcoming dark comedy Welcome to Chippendales, premiering on the streamer November 22. The true-crime limited series follows Somen “Steve” Banerjee (Kumail Nanjiani), a socially awkward Indian immigrant and the founder of Chippendales, the world’s greatest male-stripping empire. Out Emmy Award-winning actor Murray Bartlett plays the producer-choreographer Nick De Nioa, who helps Banerjee expand Chippendales from a seedy West LA venture into a global phenomenon. The star studded-cast also includes Robin de Jesús as Ray Colon, a Nuyorican handyman from the Bronx, and Andrew Rannells as a privileged rich kid from the city who becomes De Nioa’s love interest; find the trailer below! In more fictional strip-club news, the GLAAD Media Award-nominated Starz series P-Valley has been renewed for a third season!

11.) Out actress and director Natalie Morales has been cast in the upcoming third season of The Morning Show, joining the queer-stacked ensemble with Tig Notaro and Stephen Fry. Morales is set to recur as Kate Danton, Stella’s best friend from college who was part of a start-up incubator run by Paul Marks. In other casting announcements, The Real Housewives of New York City is returning with seven new stars, including out fashion designer and business personality Jenna Lyons! Bravo’s newly rebooted season fourteen follows a dynamic group of women who run in the same social circles in the city that never sleeps. 

12.) Queer indie-pop icon girl in red has released a short film and music video for her newly released single “October Passed Me By”; check out the film here and watch the music video below! In more music news, out singer-songwriter and actress Tove Lo has released her fifth album Dirt Femme and out Grammy and Oscar winning singer-songwriter Sam Smith has announced their fourth album Gloria, set for release January 27, 2023. Queer synth pop sensation Plasmic has released a new single entitled “Ghost you”; listen to the unrequited love song here and watch the lyric video here!
