The GLAAD Wrap: ‘Moxie’ on Netflix; premiere dates for ‘Everything’s Gonna Be Okay’ and ‘Love, Victor;’ new music from St. Vincent, Rotsam, and more!

Every week, The GLAAD Wrap brings you LGBTQ-related entertainment news highlights, fresh stuff to watch out for, and fun diversions to help you kick off the weekend.

1) Netflix film Moxie was released on the streaming service on Wednesday. The film follows Vivian, a shy teenager who starts an underground zine called Moxie to call out sexist behavior in her high school, and begins to form friendships with a new group of girls. One of those students is CJ, a trans student played by actress Josie Totah, who joins the group. Moxie is streaming now on Netflix.

2) Out Portrait of a Lady on Fire filmmaker Céline Sciamma’s newest film Petite Maman has been acquired by Neon for US distribution. The film follows an eight-year-old girl who has just lost her grandmother and meets a new friend in the woods behind her house. In more film news, out actress and recently announced GLAAD Media Awards host Niecy Nash has been cast in the Netflix rom-com The Perfect Find, as Darcy, the boss of protagonist Jenny (Gabrielle Union) who begins dating Darcy’s son.  Billy Eichner’s upcoming rom-com Bros has received a release date, the Universal film about two men with commitment issues who attempt a relationship will hit theaters August 12, 2022.

3) A premiere date has been announced for Freeform’s GLAAD Media Award-nominated comedy Everything’s Gonna Be Okay.  The show, featuring lead queer character Nicholas and his sister Matilda who is queer and autistic, will return on April 8. Freeform also announced that the second season of Motherland: Fort Salem will premiere this summer. The show follows militarized teenage witches and features queer characters Raelle and Scylla.

4) Hulu has announced a return date for GLAAD Media Award-nominated comedy Love, Victor, which will release its second season on June 11. The second season with follow Victor’s junior year, now that he is out of the closet. Hulu also released a trailer and premiere date for The Handmaid’s Tale. The show will return for season four on April 28; watch the trailer below.

5) The novel Detransition, Baby from trans author Torrey Peters will be made into a television series. The dramedy will be based on the same story as the book, following a trans woman named Reese, whose ex comes back into the picture to raise a baby that he has had with another woman. In more TV news, out multi-hyphenate Keke Palmer has signed a television deal with Entertainment One to work together on several upcoming television projects. Out actor Guillermo Diaz has been cast in a new ABC pilot National Parks. He will play Vic, a special agent and helicopter pilot. Queer dating app Grindr has announced that it will be releasing original scripted content with upcoming series Bridesman, which features queer talent including Jimmie Fowlie, Sydnee Washington, and Shannon Devido. The show will be released in six to ten episodes on the app and YouTube.

6) Out singer St. Vincent has released a new teaser for her upcoming album Daddy’s Home, which will be released on May 14. She also released a new single and video, “Pay Your Way in Pain.” Listen to the song here, and watch the video below! Queer singer girl in red had released a new single “Seratonin” this week off of her upcoming debut album if I could make it go quiet, which will be released on April 30. 7) Out singer Rotsam released a new single “4Runner” from his upcoming album Changephobia. Listen to the single and preorder the album here! Out singer Ladyhawke released a new single “Guilty Love” yesterday, featuring the band Brooks. It is the first single from Ladyhawke’s upcoming album which will be released later in 2021. 8) The first installment of Marvel’s America Chavez: Made in the USA hit shelves on Wednesday. The series continues to follow Chavez, the lesbian Latinx superhero, as a secret from her past emerges. The series comes from writer Kalinda Vasquez and artist Carlos Gomez; it is now available wherever you get your comics!
